As editors at Lifestyle Asia, we’re privileged to get a first look at the most exciting new luxury goods daily, but with so many new releases rolling out all the time, it’s all but impossible to cover every single lust-worthy find we have our eyes on. That’s what you’ll find in Weekly Obsessions: a running list of highly covetable items we’re currently mad about — because if it’s on our radar, it should definitely be on yours, too. From the must-have shoe of the moment to age-defying beauty products, scroll down to see what our editors are obsessing over this week.
It’s no news that the Camélia, one of Chanel‘s most instantly recognisable emblems of all time, is Gabrielle Chanel’s favourite flower. This year, the house is honouring it once again with a new line of jewellery pieces called Pétales de Camélia, and I especially adore this ring (HK$73,800) featuring a silhouette that curves elegantly around your fingers. There is also a center diamond embedded right in the center, for a touch of understated glamour. —Cindie Chan, Style Editor
I’ve always been one to wear skirts more than pants. I guess it’s because I do a lot of my shopping online and it’s easier to get the right fit with dresses and skirts than with pants. Lately, I’ve been having a thing for those with asymmetric hems for its effortless appeal, and I am liking this leather ‘Tissue’ skirt by Tibi (HK$8,990), which will add a nice pop of colour to any wardrobe. —CC
Cult Gaia, a contemporary brand that gained a huge cult following for its bamboo tote, has just launched a series of new ‘Sage’ mules (HK$3,150) for the SS19 season. I’m loving how they’re made from fine strips of leather and set on a sculptural metal block heel, giving off a very refreshing and modern vibe. —CC
Since 1956, Carrera has been synonymous with the eclectic universe of extreme sports. The brand frequently adorns the faces of competitors at the Winter Olympics and Formula 1 races, but you certainly don’t have to be an adrenaline junkie to appreciate its eyewear, which fuses archetypical machismo with functional design. These black and gold aviators (HK$1,370) are a relatively representative style: as good for an après-ski snifter as they are during priority disembarkation. It should come as no surprise that the construction is excellent: the bridge and arms are adjoined using lightweight spring hinges; and side shields have been added (around the lens) to protect against inclement weather. If little pops of tricorn colour (à la Thom Browne) are your thing, these also feature the Carrera “flag”, painted over the front edge of the left lens. Bold statement eyewear? Most assuredly. But it certainly beats yet another uninspired pair of “timeless” black Wayfarers. —Randy Lai, Staff Writer
