Weekly Obsessions: Christian Louboutin’s sneakers, Omega’s limited Speedmaster Apollo 11

As editors at Lifestyle Asia, we’re privileged to get a first look at the most exciting new luxury goods daily, but with so many new releases rolling out all the time, it’s all but impossible to cover every single lust-worthy find we have our eyes on. That’s what you’ll find in Weekly Obsessions: a running list of highly covetable items we’re currently mad about — because if it’s on our radar, it should definitely be on yours, too. From the must-have shoe of the moment to age-defying beauty products, scroll down to see what our editors are obsessing over this week.

Weekly Obsessions - Christian Louboutin

Christian Louboutin Red Runner Donna Cinestripe sneakers

Christian Louboutin is officially extending its footwear range of glamorous heels by launching its first collection of luxury sneakers for both men and women. Titled ‘Run Loubi Run’, the collection (available at a special pop-up store in Lane Crawford IFC through 31 March) comes in a range of styles, all featuring simple yet glamorous designs decorated with delicate elements including the brand’s signature hand-applied crystals. There’s also a little bit of a heel for added height, which is great for my petite frame. I love the sophisticated tone-on-tone versions, but if I had to choose just one pair, it would be the Red Runner Donna Cinestripe (HK$10,500 for women, HK$9,900 for men) for its fun and eye-catching urban design, which should work as a refreshing alternative to the neutral-coloured sneakers that I own. —Cindie Chan, Style Editor

Weekly Obsessions - Omega

OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Limited Edition

Earlier last week, OMEGA celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission in a seriously big way — by releasing an update on the historically important Speedmaster BA145.022. Known for its burgundy bezel, onyx markers and lustrous 18k gold construction, the BA145.022 was produced to commemorate mankind’s first successful landing upon the lunar surface. For this particular iteration of commemorative all-gold Speedy (HK$283,400), OMEGA chose to keep the original’s high-impact design language; whilst providing plenty of material and mechanical improvements which showcase OMEGA’s redoubtable technical pedigree. For the case and bracelet, ordinary yellow gold was eschewed in favour of a proprietary alloy made with palladium (the latter element helps to fight discolouration); and the traditional insert has been substituted for a ceramic bezel etched in Ceragold. As inarguably cool as the case and dial are though, it’s when you flip this Speedy over that its true appeal begins to shine through — literally. On the caseback the gold-plated calibre 3861 is visible: aside from various kinds of finishes (e.g. Côtes de Genève) adorning this classic chronograph, the inner ring is inlaid with a depiction of the moon made using an actual piece of lunar meteorite. Along with a geographically correct illustration of Earth, the movement shows the proportional size and distance between the two bodies. Handsome, visually sumptuous and (at 42mm) highly wearable; this update celebrates OMEGA’s proximity to the groundbreaking cultural moments of 20th century space exploration. Randy Lai, Staff Writer

Weekly Obsessions - Il Profvmo

Il Profumo Fleur Cerisier Eau de Parfum

Valmont, like many luxury skincare brands with clinical roots, increasingly has its world intertwined with art and lifestyle (it’s owned by a family of art collectors, after all). Ahead of the celebration of artistic talent in Hong Kong this month, Valmont has released Fleur de Cerisier (HK$1,080/50ml; HK$1,480/100ml) by Il Profumo, the Venetian boutique perfume house acquired by Valmont Group in 2012. It’s the first perfume created by Sophie Guillon who heads the Valmont estate, celebrating the transition from the original collection by Il Profumo’s founder Silvana Casoli. Pink cherry blossom and rose perfumes may seem a dime a dozen ahead of the spring and summer months, but Fleur de Cerisier is a welcome surprise. Inspired by sakura blossoms in full bloom, a freesia mid-note elevates a rose-tinged head note with an effervescent touch — meaning it’s not too sweet. Instead, it leaves a lingering impression with an invigorating, comforting freshness. You just can’t help wanting to breathe in more. Evelyn Lok, Associate Editor

Weekly Obsessions - NARS

NARS Radiant Longwear Foundation & Radiant Creamy Concealer

Every woman’s dream is to have skin like a newborn baby’s bottom. If she tells you that’s untrue, she’s probably lying. I’ve always been skeptical of cream or liquid foundations, mostly because the stickiness really gets to me, but I recently tried NARS’s Radiant Longwear foundation (HK$470) and the Radiant Creamy Concealer (HK$290) and I feel like my life has been changed for the better. Being the busy out and about modern woman that I am, I’m used to re-applying my concealer and touching up my foundation 2-3 times a day. I’ve spent the past week using NARS’s classic collection, and have reduced my need for touching up to maybe once right before my evening plans, if at all. Obviously they weren’t kidding when they said ‘longwear’.  Aydee Tie, Head of Marketing
