Loewe Balloon bag
The temperature is rising and that means only one thing: Time to shop for the new season! The easiest way to start updating your seasonal wardrobe is, of course, through bags, which you’ll be able to carry around way ahead of summer as the temperature fluctuates during the transition.
I recently had my eyes set on Loewe’s brand new Balloon bag, which was the star of the brand’s Spring/Summer 2020 show. The brand shows off its expertise on leatherwork by incorporating two types of leather into the design, which includes a round structured base crafted from robust calf leather, and a drawstring sac made from soft napa calfskin. If you’re looking for something that’s more summery, there’s also one that comes with a canvas sac, for that instant resort-ready vibe. You can find the Balloon bag in three sizes, with the larger two available with both a shorter handle and a long adjustable strap, while the smallest version comes only with the longer one. I prefer the medium version in black/tan (HK$24,650) for that beautiful colour contrast, what about you? —Cindie Chan, Style Editor
Gucci Mascara L’Obscur
Alessandro Michele’s vision of beauty for Gucci can be summed up with one word: eccentricity. With its recent inaugural lipstick launches in various daring hues of jewelled blues, greens and metallic hues, the brand’s latest addition is an equally audacious mascara wand that fans will definitely want to get their hands on immediately this month.
Dressed in baby pink and gold in Michele’s signature retro aesthetic, the new Mascara L’Obscur (HK$315) is all about versatility: apply it vertically to achieve a bold, punk-rock finish, or horizontally for a more subtle everyday look. The sparse spool brush and formula have been designed specifically to grip lashes as precisely as possible, and the mascara comes in an intense black shade at launch — though from what we know of Gucci, it’s likely for the house to broaden up the offerings soon. For any staunch makeup collector, you’ll definitely want to give this new wand a spin. —Evelyn Lok, Associate Editor
Matchesfashion x Alister Mackie printed shirts
From pink suits to pearl necklaces, Harry Styles‘ flamboyant fashion choices have earned him the industry recognition and status of a style icon. You can almost always see him in a floral suit or pussy-bow blouse, showing the guys how gender-fluid fashion is done.
Want to channel the spirit of this old-school rock star? Other than going for Gucci and Saint Laurent (both designers see Styles as their muse), there’s a new option for you: Matchesfashion has teamed up with Alister Mackie, creative director of AnOther Man magazine, to design an exclusive shirting capsule. Having already made a shirt for Primal Scream‘s Bobby Gillespie when he was a fashion student, Mackie is, of course, no stranger to the rocker aesthetic. He’s filled his new shirts (HK$6,625 each) with prints of leopards, mushrooms, butterflies, men on horseback and more, all evoking a unique character and, of course, that fascinating flamboyant vibe everybody is falling in love with. —CC
