As editors at Lifestyle Asia, we’re privileged to get a first look at the most exciting new luxury goods daily, but with so many new releases rolling out all the time, it’s all but impossible to cover every single lust-worthy find we have our eyes on. That’s what you’ll find in Weekly Obsessions: a running list of highly covetable items we’re currently mad about — because if it’s on our radar, it should definitely be on yours, too. From the must-have shoe of the moment to age-defying beauty products, scroll down to see what our editors are obsessing over this week.
I’ve previously gushed about the Loewe Gate bag, and J.W. Anderson has captured my heart once again with a sophisticated, summery reinterpretation of the bag for the Spring/Summer 2019 season. This new Gate top handle (HK$19,700) not only looks super sleek as a whole, I’m also rather obsessed with the contrasting texture of the smooth leather versus the rough raffia. The bag is also rather functional, and comes in internal patch pocket (lined in herringbone canvas), removable shoulder strap and more, so you can easily take it with you from the city to the beach. —Cindie Chan, Style Editor
As an example of your typical twenty-something male, I’m naturally sceptical about the pseudoscientific frippery that plagues most of the market for hair and beauty products. In spite of all that, I’ll very occasionally be proven wrong by a formulation with the right combination of price point, innovation and utility. Today that achievement falls to OMG: the in-house range of shampoos and treatments developed by Shhh creative director Marvin Lin. Using predominantly natural ingredients (e.g. hydrolysed keratin protein and collagen), OMG products like the aptly named “glossy” shampoo (HK$380) deliver salon-quality results from the comfort of your own home. In all seriousness: Lin applied a handful of this stuff to my scalp during a routine cut last week and improvements occurred almost instantaneously. Leaving the hair visibly bouncier, shinier and more full-bodied, this shampoo is ideal for those who subject their scalp to daily salvos of pomade and blow-drying. For an effective pre-event regimen, pair this with the brand’s sodium hyaluronate scalp treatment — the latter will give you even more structure and volume to work with whilst you’re styling. —Randy Lai, Staff Writer
Featuring lingerie-inspired design including feather trimmings and point d’esprit paneling, this twill ‘Obfuscation’ skirt by Brock Collection is not only elegant and sexy but also a lot of fun. It’s unfortunately rather expensive for a skirt (HK$38,165), but if I had that much to splash, I’d love to wear it with a white slogan/logo tee and colourful mules for a delightful mix of elegance and casual chic. —CC
As someone who doesn’t accessorise much, I tend to gravitate toward low-key and simple designs when I shop for jewellery or clothes. However, the recently launched Lucky Goddess earrings (HK$1,550) from Austrian brand Swarovski’s Spring 2019 collection caught my eye the second I saw it. The Moroccan-inspired design features a cascading charm in turquoise, connected to a refined gold sun, that adds a pop of colour and pairs effortlessly with most of my cool toned outfit choices, yet still stands out as a unique and alluring piece of jewellery. With the brand touting a #FollowYourInstinct hashtag for this collection, and advocating for positivity and individuality, you’ve got to ask yourself — why shine like a diamond, when you can shine like the sun? —Aydee Tie, Head of Marketing
Three things are essential for me when we’re experiencing this kind of gloomy drizzle at the start of the week: a big cup of hot coffee, my office blanket, and some kind of refreshing scent. When my coworker isn’t billowing menthol mist from her diffuser or I’m not spritzing some essential oil-based spray to wake us all up, I really do enjoy the travel-friendly Stress Check Breathe In (HK$140) by This Works. It’s a refreshing and calming blend of lavender, eucalyptus and frankincense encased in a handy rollerball — you roll the oil on your pressure points like your wrist or neck and breathe in. When I get a spare minute in between all the crazy happenings of the work day, it’s also great to roll a few drops in warm hands and breathe in sync to my Apple Watch breathe app. Plus, it also doubles as a minty inhaler to help relieve a blocked nose, or even when you’re feeling stuffy on a plane. —Evelyn Lok, Associate Editor
