Michael Kors’ Watch Hunger Stop ‘Love’ t-shirts and tote
Every year in October since 2013, Michael Kors honours World Food Day (which lands on 16 October) by launching special-edition products under its ‘Watch Hunger Stop‘ initiative, which raises funds for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to help eliminate world hunger — starting with helping children at risk.
Over the years, this meaningful cause has been endorsed by international stars from Halle Berry to Kate Hudson and many more. For 2019, Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o is joining in to promote the latest charitable series. You’ll find unisex ‘Love’ t-shirts (HK$320 each) and a canvas tote (HK$400) with leather handles, all launching in select Michael Kors lifestyle stores around the world on 1 October, including Hong Kong’s K11 Musea and Times Square stores.
These pieces are sleek, minimalistic and good-looking, and 100 percent of the profits will be donated to WFP, which is why I highly recommend all of you to participate. Don’t forget to also upload a selfie on social media (with hashtag #watchhungerstop) of you wearing these items, because for each photo, the brand will donate 100 additional meals to WFP, helping even more children in need. —Cindie Chan, Style Editor
Loewe’s Lantern bag
Upon a recent visit to Loewe‘s beautiful new store at K11 Musea, I was introduced to this fascinating Lantern bag (HK$87,000) created in tribute to a 1950s handbag by Amsterdam-based designer L.F.W Straeter, called the Straeter Lite-On. The bag was discovered by creative director Jonathan Anderson at a London antique store a decade ago, and he’s decided to replicate it with a few aesthetic updates for the 21st century.
At first glance, the Lantern looks just like any ordinary handbag from the 50s, but have a play with it and you’ll find it’s anything but. Not only is there a trigger at the bottom of the handle that switches on a light through the lantern-shaped window (designed as a fancy flashlight back in the day for ladies to light up the key holes to their front doors after a martini or two); as you open it up, you will also see a small mirror conveniently integrated onto the edge of the bag right next to light. Then, push that same trigger all the way to the other side, and you’ll find a light illuminating the bottom of the bag, intended to help you find that elusive lipstick at a glance.
This 21st century edition has replicated all the fascinating secret details from the Straeter Lite-On, with a silhouette that’s been slightly elevated for modern taste. It’s a perfect bag for those who appreciate vintage charm, and also the craftsmanship that it comes with it. —CC
MTM Custom-Blended Overnight Re-Boost Mask
As we learn more about sensitising harms of airborne pollution, heavy metals and photo-ageing agents on our skin and immune system, anti-pollution sprays and serums are fast becoming an essential category in our arsenal of skincare potions. One product that I’m particularly enamoured with at the moment is the new overnight re-boost mask by MTM (HK$890). Boasting custom-blended products with ingredients added depending on your skin’s needs, this overnight mask glides on like a silky, soothing putty, setting invisibly while you sleep with no mess on your pillow when you wake up.
Zostera Marina Extract helps to improve the skin cell barrier and also promote collagen synthesis, so you wake up to healthy, bouncy skin. After a detailed consultation at K11 Musea’s new MTM store, my tub had Calendula extract and an Aqua Moist Essence added to soothe sensitive skin and give an extra dose of hydration.
True story: after several late nights one week causing dry, tired skin, I used this the night before I was scheduled in for a facial. The next day my beautician actually laughed and said I didn’t really need one because my skin was already so plump and dewy. If you’re in need of an overnight miracle worker, you’ll definitely want to give this mask a try. —Evelyn Lok, Associate Editor
