6 Buccellati fine jewellery pieces to covet for the new year

A little diamond-studded motivation for 2021.

Crossing fingers that the new year will be anything but what the last 12 months have been, we’re making the leap into January with a modicum of optimism and a ton of extravagance — doused in technicolour and dripping in jewels, to be exact — hoping, yearning and manifesting that our choice of accessories will somehow be prophetic for a better year ahead; one of thrills and excitement.

Like a well-timed response, Buccellati has opened its doors to a brand new storefront in the heart of the city: Landmark Prince’s, Central. A widely acclaimed benchmark for premium, artisanal jewellery, the Milan-based jeweller infuses generations of Italian craftsmanship into exquisite Renaissance- and Venetian-inspired designs. Standing the true test of time, these sleek and refined pieces will easily transition from day-to-night and become well-treasured heirlooms, worthy of passing down generations.

We highlight six pieces from the brand’s two signature collections below: Macri and Opera Tulle.

A Buccellati classic through and through, this 18-karat gold ring sits proudly within the brand’s widely celebrated ‘Macri’ collection, beloved for the lightly engraved surface dubbed ‘rigato’ — a hand-scored, gold-smithing technique central to the brand’s design craftsmanship. Wrapping delicately around the finger, the tin dotted moments of diamond rosettes shimmer under flashing lights; a wonderfully elegant addition to everyday jewellery boxes.

Shining. Shimmering. Splendid.  This ‘Macri Classica’ bangle will be a quietly decadent addition to a well-stacked wrist, yet still manage to garner envious stares and tempt second glances. Synonymous with the Italian brand’s exquisite craftsmanship, this lightly radiant piece beautifully showcases the collection’s most beloved qualities — rigato surfacing, 18-karat rose gold construction; and bezel-set diamond accents.

No ordinary pendant earrings, these are a Buccellati ‘Macri Classica’ pair — one made to stand out amongst the crowd. Gleaming in 18-karat white gold, the collection’s signature texturised ‘rigato’ scoring is evident, as are the signature diamond-centred rosettes. From the circular stud, this piece descends into statement teardrop pendant — for light-glinting swings, and makes for a fitting final piece to a well-assembled soireé ensemble, or a befitting ‘above the keyboard’ detail for your next Zoom gathering.

'Opera Tulle' pendant necklace

The centrepiece of Buccellati’s ‘Opera Tulle’ collection? An ornate Renaissance-inspired floral; in which this pendant necklace aptly displays. No frills, no fuss. Peer in close and admire the exquisite engraving upon the florid, 18-karat yellow gold frame, made especially striking when sidled against the verdant enamel centre. Wear this delicate piece in addition to low necklines and perfectly twisted chignon.

For those who consider the beginning of a new year to be a perfect instance for trialling new styles, this ‘Macri’ cuff is one entirely fitting, non-intrusive place to start. Eschewing the typical yellow, rose or white gold construction, this bracelet embraces a DLC-treated surface for a striking black gold appearance, beautifully animated by the shimmer of the accompanying diamond rosettes. Rather than ridding its original elegance, however, the darkened palette gains intrigue and allure; christened as a jewellery box mainstay for boasting rights, and with good reason.

'Opera' station bracelet

Perhaps one of the brand’s most versatile design, this station bracelet within the ‘Opera Tulle’ line is a piece that will look just as wonderful with T-shirts and jeans or a striking tulle-layered, sequin strewn evening gown. Strung upon a thin 18-karat yellow gold chain, the piece makes way for the collection’s signature Renaissance-inspired ‘tulle raggiera‘ florals, before coming to the intricately detailed centre charm, accented by a deep navy underlay.
