Mikimoto celebrates ocean-inspired opulence with new Lee Gardens flagship

Following last year’s grand celebration of its 125th anniversary, Mikimoto, Japan’s representative jeweller and the originator of cultured pearls, is expanding its footprint in Hong Kong in the form of a brand-new 1,500-sq.-ft. flagship store at Lee Gardens Two, Causeway Bay. Taking inspiration from the brand’s reputation for opulence and refinement, the store’s beautiful façade stretches up to three stories high, presented in a champagne gold with simplistic billowing patterns evoking grace and beauty.

Adhering to the unwavering pursuit of beauty led by founder Mikimoto Kōkichi, who aspired to adorn the necks of all women around the world with pearls over a century ago — absolutely no effort was spared in the design of the store. The overall design is inspired by the ocean, which is the home of all pearls, while the wavy gold architectural lines with backlighting recall the surface of water shimmering against a golden sun.

Step through the double glass door, and you’ll find yourself welcomed by a distinctive aesthetic that combines contemporary design and traditional Japanese art. Take another look around, and the feature wall clad in Nishijinori will certainly attract your attention. A form of Japan’s natural treasure, this intricately crafted fabric is a traditional Japanese textile, with a rich history dating back 1,200 years. This one, in particular, features a floral pattern of wisteria, which traditionally symbolises welcoming somebody into your home. It’s proudly placed within the store, and juxtaposed with the marble and parquet flooring, attributes to the feeling of a bright and spacious store.

Whether it’s the must-have pearl necklaces for everyday wear or the mesmerising high jewellery creations, Mikimoto’s pieces are sure to catch your eye as you walk through the store admiring the splendid displays. Alternatively, you can also sit back and relax inside the exclusive private showroom, where you’re guaranteed a personalised shopping experience as you admire Mikimoto’s elegant century-old craftsmanship.

In celebration of the grand opening of the Lee Gardens flagship store, Mikimoto has just hosted Hong Kong’s first in-store exhibition featuring select pieces from the brand’s exquisite high jewellery collection. You can also find a small range of luxury gift creations — comprised of pearl-embellished photo frames and ball pens — at the store, previously sold exclusively in Japan.
