With the bottle-blonde curls, beauty mark and, of course, that plunging white dress, Marilyn Monroe is certainly one of the most iconic ladies in entertainment history. Fondly remembered as Hollywood’s favourite bombshell, her sensuality, breathtaking beauty and unforgettable charm linger til this very day.

Paying tribute to her incomparable complexity and timeless glamour, Blancpain has launched an exhibition dedicated to the actress, which runs from now through 23 November at the watchmaker’s Fifth Avenue boutique.

Titled Timeless Elegance, the exhibition features a 1930s Art Deco-inspired cocktail watch that once belonged to Monroe, displayed alongside her other personal items — including dresses, books, a director’s chair, a Screen Actors Guild membership card, and receipts from her New York experience — and a curated selection of photographs of the beloved American actress.

“We are particularly proud to present for the very first time this cocktail watch owned by Marilyn Monroe,” said Marc A. Hayek, President and CEO of Blancpain. “Especially since Marilyn Monroe had very few pieces of jewellery, despite the memorable Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend which she loved to sing.”

Believed to be a gift to Monroe from her third husband, author Arthur Miller, the jewellery watch is beautifully crafted from platinum and thoroughly paved with 71 round-cut diamonds and two marquise-cut diamonds for an A-list worthy shimmer. Powered by a tiny mechanical FHF 59 movement engraved with ‘Rayville Watch Co. 17 Jewels’, the piece features a rectangular case and a white dial stamped with the ‘Blancpain’ insignia, appearing alongside gold-coloured numeral hour-markers and pointy blue hands. The slender geometry and structured setting appears both avant-garde and elegant, making it a perfect accessory for any occasion, day or night.

This exhibition, however, is actually not Blancpain’s first tribute to Marilyn Monroe. Those with a keen eye might have noticed the mysterious resemblance to Monroe on the face of Blancpain’s Moon Phase watches. Updated in the 1980s, the distinctive moon phase indicator features a smiling female face adorned with a star-shaped beauty mark, which has adorned every ladies’ model since 2006, forever encapsulating the quintessential uniqueness and timeless elegance of the Hollywood star.
