Omega takes us on a yachting adventure with its Seamaster Aqua Terra watches

This year marks the 15th birthday of the Seamaster Aqua Terra watches, and Omega is celebrating the occasion by releasing updated versions of this stylish range of nautical timepieces. With inspiration taken from luxury sailboats and the yachting life, the Seamaster Aqua Terra collection features minimal design elements that remind us of gentle waves and glistening waters on a fine summer day at sea, making it a longtime favourite amongst sophisticated ladies and gents who love a good adventure.

With its distinctively timeless aesthetic, it might be hard to believe the Aqua Terra was first introduced back in 2002. That’s because the range has continued to evolve over the past decade and a half: it now comprises over 40 different models, and in four different sizes, too.

While the typical Aqua Terra design aspects (case shape, dial elements and handset) have remained constant, almost every other element has been reimagined over the years. The most defining feature to date? The teak-patterned dial inspired by the wooden decks of luxury sailboats. This feature was only introduced in 2008, but quickly became a favourite amongst watch lovers, and is now considered to be a trademark element of the Aqua Terra range. The feature originally contained vertical stripes, but for this year, it’s been specially updated to run horizontally, giving it a more refreshing and contemporary appeal.

Apart from design developments, the Aqua Terra collection has also undergone technical breakthroughs over the years. Not only was it the first Seamaster model (and the first collection outside the De Ville family) to be installed with a Co-Axial movement back in 2002, but it also underwent a revolutionary change in 2013, when Omega presented a new model that was updated with a movement (the Co-Axial calibre 8508) capable of resisting magnetic fields up to 15’000 Gauss. Today, all models are driven by a Master Chronometer calibre, which represents the highest level of precision, performance and magnetic resistance as approved by METAS.

Other than updating both its Seamaster Aqua Terra Ladies’ and Gent’s Collection with redesigned, up-to-date features, this year, Omega is also proudly presenting yet another significant milestone, as the watchmaker reveals its very first Worldtimer: the Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer Master Chronometer Limited Edition.

Limited to only 87 pieces, this special-edition timepiece is very different from classic Aqua Terra models. It features a 43mm platinum case, in-house METAS-certified Master Chronometer 8939 movement, and is highlighted by a beautiful hand-crafted enamel world map. The exterior, meanwhile, features sand-blasted platinum-gold printed with global destinations in red (GMT), black (+1h in summer) or blue (places without daylight savings), with a special inclusion of Bienne at GMT+1, which is Omega’s home city in Switzerland. The caseback, meanwhile, is also fully decorated from the baseplate and rotor to the balance wheel bridge, offering a visual treat.
