Yachts come in all shapes, sizes, and designs. Yachts are the personification of wealth, ranging from small and intimate cruises to the overly luxuriant ones. However, superyachts are a different breed entirely. Made for the ultra-rich and powerful, superyacht commands the respect it deserves, due to the magnitude of its size and design alone. And that is where Espen Oeino comes into play.
A visionary in his own right, Oeino is a designer and naval architect for some of the most incredible superyachts around the globe. Oeino has spent the better part of 20 years designing bespoke motor yachts for clients around the world. These range from a wide variety of superyachts like the Octopus owned by Paul Allen, Microsoft’s co-founder, and the Katara owned by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the current Amir of Qatar.
What makes superyachts different from its regular counterparts are the gargantuan size, allowing it to dwarf most yachts unmistakably. This is something that Oeino has been known for, dating back to as far as 2003 when he first built the Octopus. At 414-feet, it is one of the largest and most recognisable yachts to sail the deep blue oceans.

Built in 2016, the Dilbar Yacht stands to be Oeino’s largest fleet yet at 511.9-feet long. Oeino was part of the design team, focusing on the exterior of the yacht while the interior was handled by Winch Design. You may remember them for also designing the interiors of the Equanimity, a superyacht in its own right owned by a scandalous Malaysian entrepreneur. It is currently the fourth longest yacht ever made, but the world’s largest by sheer volume alone. Another yacht that sports the exterior styling by Oeino, the Al Said is a 508.6-feet long superyacht owned by Sultan Qaboos of Oman. Built in 2008, the Al Said currently holds the record for the world’s highest displacement superyacht at 15,850 tons. It is also the fifth longest superyacht, right behind the Dilbar Yacht. It can carry up to 70 guests at one-go while still providing a relaxed and comfortable luxury yacht experience. The Ocean Victory superyacht is 459.3-feet long, making it the 10th largest yacht in the world. The Ocean Victory was built by Fincanteri Yachts, an Italian shipbuilding company, for Russion iron and steel magnate Viktor Rashnikov. Both its engineering and exterior design was handled by Oeino, displaying his signature streamlined design. What makes the Ocean Victory great is its reported to have up to seven decks and six different pools on deck. This is one of the latest yachts designed by Oeino that still remains one of the larger superyachts he has worked with back in 2017. Built by Lurssen Yachts (much like the Dilbar Yacht and Al Said), Oeino focused on its exterior design, giving the Crescent a sleek jet-black outlook. At 444.55-feet long, it features plenty of amenities that would make any owner envious. It has a helipad and helicopter hangar as well as a cinema room, elevators, and a tender garage for speedboats. Serene is another Fincanteri-designed yacht, which personifies the meaning behind its name. This is thanks to Oeino’s engineering and exterior designing that give Serene a calm and tranquil outlook. The superyacht is built in 2011 at 439.3-feet, and comes with seven decks and a generous 18.5-metre beam. It also comprises two helicopter landing platforms, a large submarine storage, as well as an internal seawater pool, which doubles as a tender dock for smaller boats. It has 12 cabins, fitting up to 24 guests with 52 crew members on-board. Serene was built for Russian vodka tycoon Yuri Shefler but has since seen a change in ownership to Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. (Image: Boat International)
