South Indian makeup artists, especially bridal ones, are experts at dolling up the bride. Thanks to our beautiful, diverse traditions, skin types, and features, brides across India often have a varied set of requirements for their big day. So, we asked makeup artists in and around Chennai, for their recommendations on makeup products that brides should invest in for their big day.
These products can come handy for your makeup artist to use, for brides to utilize in the multiple small functions that lead up to their big day and continue after.
Premier makeup artist Samantha Jagan has worked with several Tollywood clients, brides, and the likes. Along the way, her makeovers have won several accolades in the industry. We reached out to her for one recommendation on a product all brides should have, and her answer was clear: Full-effect kohl.
“Brides in South India should play up their beautiful eyes and get full-effect kohl that doesn’t wear out halfway through the day and creates a bold look.”
Prakruthi, @prakatwork on Instagram, has been a professional MUA for over 10 years. She’s worked with brides, actors, models, and on several shoots. So, safe to say, she has extensive knowledge in the field.
“I believe that every bride, especially South Indian ones, should invest in a colour corrector and concealer that sits well on their skin. First, apply corrector around the mouth and under the eyes, areas prone to pigmentation, dab, and blend to create an orange/ peach shadow of sorts in those areas. Next, apply your base foundation and concealer. The right corrector and concealer make all the difference!”
Nowshiba is a professional hair and makeup artist at Chiselle Makeup & Hair. She has worked with over 500 brides in multiple cities. When we asked her about her must-have product, she couldn’t settle for just one.
“All brides-to-be must have a Capsule Makeup kit handy. The kit should consist of a travel size concealer, corrector, basic nude eyeshadow palette, highlighter, lip & cheek tint, a translucent powder, along with nude and red lip colour for subtle day look and evening glam makeover. Keeping a blotting paper and facial mist would be handy for a long-wear makeover. Investing in some makeup classes won’t be a bad idea.”
Olivia Anugraha is one of the more popular makeup artists and a beauty influencer in South India. She specialises in bridal makeup and gives bespoke makeup lessons through workshops and masterclasses. She recommends three must-have products for the South Indian bride.
“South Indian brides should definitely invest in a good primer, foundation, and a loose setting powder to battle the humidity.”
Steffhy, @steffhairandmakeup, is a blogger as well as a hair and makeup artist from Coimbatore. She works across the nation and has dolled up over 200 brides since 2015. Steffhy is super passionate about makeup and styling and has a basic recommendation for all brides: Skincare.
“I would suggest that brides invest in some good skincare – a cleanser, toner, moisturiser, and eye cream. Visit a dermatologist and start sorting out any issues months in advance. That’s the best thing you can do for your big day.”
