The runways are teeming with a bunch of interesting ideas this year – the unofficial theme being “bright and bold”. At Couture Week 2019, the mood went from couture to bridal, with designers looked at creating newer trends with traditional wear – thereby giving it a contemporary flair. Hair went from simple to dramatic alongside over-the-top hair accessories while makeup was equally compelling, colourful and completely glamorous.

Bright eyes to glossy lids to matte lips and shiny cheekbones, it’s all about balance this year while adding a bit of a twist. And these interesting looks were brought to life by Sonic Sarwate, Global Senior Artist, M.A.C Cosmetics India for India Couture Week’19. So if you’re wondering how to stay on the stylish side of beauty for the rest of the year, look no further than the bold, dramatic and beautiful makeup moments of the season so far.

Suneet Verma: Sophisticated Pinks

Highlighters might have become the name of the makeup game this year. Suneet Verma’s looks revolved around creating a shiny, glossy face that is both alluring and effortless. Notice the conventional way of wearing pink but with a millennial way of giving that radiant glow. This is barbie in 2019, looking sophisticated and chic where the skin is moist, almost dewy and smooth. The cream blush in Posey from M.A.C cosmetics added that dewy finish while eyes looked simple with a light brown hue. Light pink lipsticks are back, specially glossy, juicy ones.

Tarun Tahiliani: Bold eyes

Soft but still punchy, Tarun Tahiliani’s inspiration was the quintessential Indian bride. So there’s the strict liner which makes the eyes look bigger, lots of lashings of mascara and a slightly smoky brown eye look. The lipstick was neutral, the jawline contoured to perfection and a matte sheen accompanying this look. All the drama was created with the eyes so it’s about playing them big and bold.

There is a slight flushed look created with blush but mostly, it was about contouring.

Shane & Falguni Peacock: Shimmer Queen

It’s not fall yet but we are in love with oodles of shine and shimmer. Shane & Falguni Peacock’s show was all about balance, keeping the eyes dramatic and the rest of the face, matte and flawless. Sculpted jawline aside, the facial features are enhanced by the slight blush and glossy lips while the eyes were slathered in glitter. Whether it’s got a coppery sheen or a dull gold look, it’s all about playing up the eyes.

Rahul Mishra: Dramatic Reds

A fire-engine red lip was all that Rahul Mishra went ahead with to create that beautiful Indian look. Not maroon, not plum, not even brick red – this year it’s all about the bright, orange-ish red. The rest of the face stays glossy and even-toned, not a hint of colour anywhere.

Pankaj & Nidhi: Graphic Glitter

When glitter goes graphic, we love it. At Pankaj & Nidhi, the look was focussed on the eyes with an unusual pink shade of glitter taking centerstage. The stripe of pink glitter added to the strictness of the look while pandering to the playfulness of the colour. We loved the shiny face, the glossy lips and the hint of blush that helped draw attention to the eyes.

Amit Aggarwal: Orange Mania

Going by the way designers are interpreting colour on the runways this year, we were not surprised when orange as an eye hue took over Amit Aggarwal’s feed. This is the one look that lacks balance but goes all the way to create a new niche: matching coloured lids with a lip shade that’s bold. With glossy orange being the pathbreaker on the eyes as a small liner with emphasis on the corners, we have a linear even-toned face ending with glossy orange lips – a coup for sure.
