The Cannes Film Festival is no longer just a cultural hub – it’s a fashion and beauty extravaganza that gets us to update our makeup and hair skills annually. With celebrities competing with peers and upping their game from the last year’s appearances, Cannes has a hotbed for showcasing unusual trends and bold makeup. India this year had an all-time high representation, with not just more actors attending, but influencers and models also walking the red carpet. Here, we’ve rounded up the five big makeup trends Cannes 2019 gave us, via our local girls.
Coloured eye lids

Blue seems to be the shade to follow this year, both as an eyeliner and eyeshadow. Priyanka Chopra wore it beautifully with her Fendi dress while Deepika went the softer route with a rose gold blurred liner look for her photo-op at the Hotel Martinez.
Even Diana Penty’s fuchsia pink eyes and metallic blue liner by MUA Mariana Mukuchyan caught our attention.
Brown smokey eyes

If there’s glamour, can smoky eyes be far? From blurred shadows to shimmery bronzed looks, it’s how softly and gently brown became the norm at Cannes. Huma Qureshi wore it without a liner while Deepika went softer in nude with nude lips. We loved how Priyanka wore it with big lashes and model Neelam Gill’s brushed-out look. Influencers Masoom Minawala and Diipa Khosla surprised us with neat, toned down browns – a perfect look for the evening.
Gold beauties
Whether it’s near the corners of the eyes or slathered along the cheekbones, highlighters played a big role at Cannes this year. We especially loved the gold highlighter that Aishwarya Rai used on the ear to give it a dramatic effect. Diana Penty on the other hand kept her highlighter on the bold gold eye, with plenty used on her brow too. Sonam’s MUA Arti Nayar used high-shine highlighter across her face and shoulders for that sun-kissed effect.
Graphic eyes

We’re already written about those stark graphic eyes that Deepika Padukone pulled off at Cannes this year. The trick is to go easy on the rest of the face with nude lips, a flushed blush, and then give the eye a precise, linear look. Aishwarya, on the other hand gave hers a black and silver look that worked with big lashes while Priyanka went with a single extended cat eye. We loved how Sonam used liner, with a blurred out effect to give her eyes that big liner look.
Angel eyes
Swipes of silver, rose gold, and champagne were seen across eyelids too this season as a stark contrast to the graphic eye. This trend is softer, more sophisticated, and very doable. Diana Penty went all out with this look on her eyes, giving her style a more retro feel while Sonam wore it with tints of pink to show the sheer side of beauty. Our vote though goes to Huma for adding a faint tint of pink to give that soft, angelic effect, and Deepika for keeping it simple with just a swipe.
