You might think that with the lockdown restrictions easing off, you have a chance of things getting back to normal. But face masks are going to be a regular inclusion in our daily lives. And with masks come various issues too – Maskne, dryness, and excessive sweating. But let’s look at the bright side, when it comes to makeup, one no longer needs to worry about lipstick, contouring, baking and a full-face of makeup. Your makeup needs to become mask-friendly, and eye makeup is now a huge priority. Here are the most colourful eye makeup looks to try on with your mask.
Prepping is important
To make your eyes look great, a little prep goes a long way. Make sure you get 8-hours of sleep, use a good eye mask (Sephora Moisturizing Eye Mask in Lychee, Rs 380), and invest in underage patches (Pixi Beauty DetoxifEYE, Rs 2,550) for tired skin. They help soothe and nourish the eye area and prep them up for eye makeup. Use an eye cream (Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronized Recovery, Rs 4,600) every day, and occasionally follow it up with an eye sleeping mask (Laneige Eye Sleeping Mask, Rs 2,070).
Always use a good eye primer
A friendly tip, you can also use the usual face primer on your lids, but a specific eye primer can add more to your eye look, it can firm the area and help your makeup stay on for longer. The best ones in the market: The Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer, Rs 2,050; Guerlain Eye Stay Primer, Rs 2,525 and Too Faced Shadow Insurance Eye Shadow Primer, Rs 1,700.
Invest in a good concealer
Find a shade that’s slightly lighter than your foundation and apply it from the lower lash line to the cheek in an upside-down triangle shape and blend it in – that will add depth and make you look more fresh and polished. A good concealer must be dewy and creamy, and it should stay put for a long time. Take a look at these LSA-approved concealers that are affordable and perfect for all Indian skin tones.
Brow up your game
We did talk about how one should groom their brows to keep them in shape and to make sure they add to your entire look. Tweeze your brows, make sure you find a brow powder and an eyebrow gel that keeps your eyes in check. The Benefit Gimme Brow + Volumizing Fiber Gel ( Rs 2,390) is perfect for those beautiful tinted brows.
Liner is king
Coloured liners are big this season but also make sure that your eyeliner is always easy to use and comes with a great tip. A good cat eye or just plain liner eyes are good enough for a quick market run. Felt tip is a great option, and so are pencil liners. Our favourite liners: Bobbi Brown Ink Liner, Rs 2,400, M.A.C Brushstroke Liner, Rs 2,300 and Too Faced Better Than Sex Liquid Eye Liner, Rs 1,700.
Mascara is enough
Invest in a mascara that can work even without an elaborate eye look. The ones that really work to give you volume are the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Waterproof Mascara (Rs 799) and the Smashbox Super Fan Mascara (Rs 2,100). You can also add a few false lashes to add a bit of drama too.
Look for eyeshadows that are versatile
When it comes to choosing a good eyeshadow palette, we’d advise for ones that have usable, versatile colours like brown, black, silver, gold, pink, and deep greens and blues. A smokey eye palette is ideal and gives you more bang for your buck. Our favourites: Guerlain Eyeshadow 5 Shades, Rs 4,125; Pixi Beauty Dream Eyeshadow Palette, Rs 3,500 and Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette-Multi-Color, Rs 4,350.
Alternatively, we also suggest one shade that will always be foolproof – for us, it’s the MAC Dazzleshadow in Dazzle Style, Rs 1,800. Sticking to one colour palette is easy with Huda Beauty’s diamond palettes – there are so many shades to choose from, including neons and nudes. Lately, the cute shimmer liquid eyeshadow shave also caught our attention – they’re so good to layer on top of regular shadows and perfect on their own too. Case in point, the Stila Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadows, Rs 2,200.
Here are the best eye looks we loved that you can try with your masks on:
The easy shimmer option
Trust Ankita Srivastava of Corallista to keep it effortless in a shimmer look that’s not overpowering. It’s also interesting that she used a rose gold- copper tone that suits Indian skin tones.
We also love how new beauty influencer Shalini Kutti of Urshayness kept it bold with a gold eyeshadow look.
The winged looks
This beautiful speckled wing is an interesting addition to a stunning eye look, and Debasree does keep it effortless.
This pretty dramatic but stunning winged liner by Arti Nayar on Sonam Kapoor has captured our attention because of the inclusion of crystals.
A simple smokey eye
Trust Kushnaz of Kat Diaries to show us how a simple yet effective smokey eye is done. The graphite look suits every outfit and is as stunning as they come.
The nude palette
One can never go wrong with a nude shade card, and no one knows this better than Aayushi Bangur of Style Drive, she keeps her fox-eye look stunning with the inclusion of a nude shade.
Sunset hues are in
Puneet Saini makes sure she uses one stunning colour to define a nude look – this time, she uses orange or peach on Alia, and that’s the only colour shouting out in this look.
This reverse cat-eye look by Namrata Soni is not just striking but also easy to do if you use the right felt liner and a penchant for practising. Make sure you balance out your look with a peachy lip.
