As a beauty editor, nothing gives me more satisfaction than finding out a new skincare trend that will make my routine better. Of course, we tried a few things over the years, from going minimalistic (which is still continuing) to trying bizarre ones (slugging). This time, it’s about trying a beauty trend that is known to be more clinical, more powerful and will guarantee that your creams and potions and their benefits are maximised for your skin health. Say hello to monodosing!

Apart from the fact that the name sounds like a  big clinical experiment, it’s a pretty easy trend to spot and get on with. Instead of the glass bottles for oils, moisturiser tubs, serum pipettes and putting your hands in pots and other fixings, most beauty addicts are now relying on tabs, ampoules and patches – those that give you your daily dose of product in a more concentrated, put-together form, almost like a single-shot medicine. We first heard of this trend on Allure magazine and wondered what benefits it can throw our way – now we know.

What really makes this a perfect way for skincare to reach you? Just the fact that everything is controlled in terms of portions. No more picking up more or less product with your finger, you get the exact amount for one usage, so no wastage. Not to forget, by using your fingers and application process, the efficacy starts getting lost right away – so ampoules are all about just breaking it up and dosing your skin with it. This also means less preservatives – so you can use up and let go.

This has other benefits too – the fresher the formula, the better its efficacy. No need to buy bigger bottles – just small, easily transportable vials and patches that give you instant relief and absolutely no contamination. This is not the first time we are seeing monodose packaging – yes we have seen packaging for travel, even those used for sampling or those that are so potent that can only come in vials – that’s exactly how we see this work.

The best advantage of monodoses is how the formula doesn’t need oils or water to add more to the formula in the bottle – no more filler ingredients, only highly concentrated serums and creams. The Indian market still doesn’t have too many products that follow monodosing. But here are a few that are making the difference.
