Steps to perform paschimottanasana

  1. Sit with your spine erect and a relaxed body.

Steps to perform bhujangasana

  3. As you inhale, slowly lift your head, chest and abdomen while keeping your naval on the floor.
  4. Now pull your torso back with the support of your hands.
  5. Take slow, deep breaths, as you curve your spine, vertebra by vertebra. If possible, arch your back, straighten your arms and tilt your head back.
  6. Hold the pose for 4-5 breaths and repeat 4-5 times.

3. Hastapadasana or standing forward bend

Benefits: This yoga pose engages your abs and back muscles. It is also an excellent movement for rehab from back injury. Apart from working as a core strengthening asana, it also provides flexibility to the spine.

Steps to perform hastapadasana

  1. Stand straight with your arms alongside the body and your feet together.
  2. As you inhale, extend your arms overhead.
  3. Breathing out, bend forward without bending your knees.
  4. You can rest your hands either on the floor or on your legs.
  5. As you exhale, lift your hips and tailbone, and let the head relax.
  6. Then as you inhale, stretch your arms forward and slowly come back to the standing position.
  7. Then breathe out and bring your arms to the sides of your body.

4. Viparita Shalabhasana or superman pose

Steps to perform Viparita Shalabhasana

  1. Lie on your stomach with your chin resting on the ground.

  4. Keep breathing in this position and ensure that your elbows and knees are not bent.

Steps to perform setubandhasana

  1. Lie on your back and place your arms by the side of your body.
  2. Keep your feet hip distance apart and fold your knees. Your knees and ankles should be in a straight line.
  3. As you breathe in, genlty lift your lower, middle and upper back off the floor.
  4. Roll your shoulders and try to touch your chest with your chin.
  5. Keep your thighs parallel to each other.
  6. Then interlace your fingers and push the hands on the floor to lift the torso further up.
  7. Hold this posture for a minute as you take long, deep breaths.
  8. Then gently release and come out of the pose.

6. Dhanurasana or the bow pose

Steps to perform dhanurasana

  1. Lie on your stomach and place your arms by the side of your body.
  2. Fold your knees and hold your ankles.
  3. As you inhale, lift your chest off the ground.
  4. Pull your legs up and pay attention to your breath. Stretch only as much as you are comfortable.
  5. As you breathe out, gently lower your chest and legs to the ground. Release the ankles and relax.

7.  Navasana or boat pose
