Can’t get enough of reality television series? Anurag Kashyap, Anil Kapoor, and Vikramaditya Motwane bring you 2020’s newest reality film, AK vs AK, which is releasing on Netflix on December 24.
AK vs AK Story –
Although summed up as a black comedy thriller, the premise looks quite real, supported by plenty of POV shots, improvised takes, and real action behind the scenes. The trailer of the movie opens with friendly banter between Kashyap and Kapoor on an interview set, which soon turns ugly, quite literally. What follows is a story that none of us would have expected. Let’s just say we sincerely hope that Sonam Kapoor, during the shoot of the film, was safe and sound.
Written by Avinash Sampath in 2013, Kashyap approaches Kapoor with a script for his next film, which is about the abduction of his daughter, Sonam Kapoor. Anil Kapoor has been given the time and cues to hunt his daughter, but it’s his confusion about how much of it is real and reel that pushes him over the edge, unleashing the ultimate bedlam. What looks like a matter of life and death for Kapoor in the film, turns into a big acting challenge for Kashyap to bring out Kapoor’s best skills for his next blockbuster.
Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, who shot to fame in the Indian film industry with films such as Udaan (2010), Dev D (2009), Lootera (2013), and Netflix’s first Indian series, Sacred Games (2018-19), our expectations from this film are already set high. The film also features Sonam Kapoor, Harshvardhan Kapoor, Yogita Bihani, and Sucharita Tyagi in supporting roles.
What makes AK vs AK a must-watch this weekend is not just the experimental storyline based on a reality-series style but also the acting chops presented by both Anurag Kashyap and Anil Kapoor in the film.
