‘Bandish Bandits’ released today on Prime Video–it’s a musical with tunes by the famous Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and that’s the main reason to watch it.
Not only is the latest Indian web series an OTT debut of veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, but it’s also a true-blue musical, a genre seen after a long time. It also stars other known faces such as Atul Kulkarni, Kunaal Roy Kapur, and debutant leads Shreya Chaudhry and Ritwik Bhowmik. And what any musical could ask for–‘Bandish Bandits’ has its songs composed by the renowned trio of Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani, and Loy Mendonsa. They are known for giving music to films such as ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, ‘Taare Zameen Par’, and many more.
“’Bandish Bandits’ is special for us in more ways than one. Not only does it mark our digital debut, but the soundtrack also allowed us to experiment with contrasting musical genres ranging from Rajasthani folk and Indian Classical to Pop and combine them to create something wholly unique. We’ve worked with artists from across the country for ‘Bandish Bandits’, and we’re confident that the soundtrack has something for everyone. It’s exciting, and we hope the audience enjoys it as much as we enjoyed making it,” said the trio.
All about Bandish Bandits: Cast & Songs –
The web series revolves around Radhe (Bhowmik) and Tamanna (Chaudhry). Radhe is a singing prodigy who wishes to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather (Shah), a classical singer. Tamanna is a rising singing sensation desperate to become India’s first international pop star. Radhe’s world is turned upside down when he falls in love with her. He has to balance helping her achieve stardom and staying true to his own music and his family’s legacy. The question remains whether he’ll be able to do that or lose it all.
The songs have received a tremendous response, so much so that there’s a virtual concert on August 5, with the likes of Armaan Malik and Prateek Kuhad joining in. “We have received an overwhelming response to the soundtrack”, said Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. “The album is a seamless amalgamation of classical and pop music and features some of the most extraordinary melodies from Indian classical music alongside some peppy tracks. We are ecstatic with the reaction the soundtrack has received and are thrilled we get to perform some of the best tracks from the soundtrack at the concert.” Singer Malik shared his excitement too, “It is always exciting to perform live for my fans online, and I am looking forward to being a part of the Bandish Bandits concert alongside Jonita and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy!”
The 10-episode series takes you on a journey of young love, ambition, staying true to your roots, and finding that balance between what’s right and what the heart wants. Watch it for good music and that dose of wholesome drama.
