With social distancing being the new normal, trips to movie theatres are going to be infrequent and just not the same. Taking the situation into cognisance, the entertainment industry has shifted focus to digital releases. The first one to do so was ‘Angrezi Medium‘, and now we have almost all Bollywood films releasing digitally through the year.
Amazon Prime Video hosted the release of Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer ‘Gulabo Sitabo‘, the biggest release until last month. French Biryani (Kannada), July 24
‘French’ Biryani features actors Danish Sait, Sal Yusuf and Pitobash as leads. Sait plays an autorickshaw driver to get involved in the misadventured of a French tourist. The latter visits India only to be mistaken as a drug peddler and get embroiled in a comedy of errors with the local mafia. The movie is written by Avinash Balekkala, directed by Pannaga Bharana and produced by Ashwini and Puneeth Rajkumar and Gurudutt A Talwar.
Shakuntala Devi (Hindi), July 31
Featuring Vidya Balan in the lead, ‘Shakuntala Devi’ is a biographical drama on the extraordinary life of Shakuntala Devi, mathematics genius, writer and astrologer who was popularly known as the human computer. Also featuring Sanya Malhotra and Directed by Anu Menon, the film is produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions and Vikram Malhotra.
Ponmagal Vandhal (Tamil), May 29
This legal drama stars tarring Jyotika, Parthiban, Bhagyaraj, Prathap Pothen, and Pandiarajan. The movie is written and directed by J.J. Fredrick and produced by Suriya and Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian.
Gulabo Sitabo (Hindi), June 12
Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana, ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ is a quirky family comedy depicting day to day struggles of the common man. The movie is written by Juhi Chaturvedi, directed by Shoojit Sircar and produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar.

Starring Keerthy Suresh, ‘Penguin’ is a women-centric film and is written and directed by Eshavar Karthic. The film is produced by Stone Bench Films and Karthik Subbaraj.
Law (Kannada), June 26
Starring Ragini Chandran, Siri Prahlad and veteran actor Mukhyamantri Chandru, ‘Law’ is written and directed by Raghu Samarth and produced by Ashwini and Puneeth Rajkumar.
