Abhay Deol is back in the game with his role as an army major in the Mahesh Manjrekar directed web series: 1962: The War in The Hills, streaming right now on Hotstar. The series is based on a major historical event in Indian History the 1962 Indo-China war. And it depicts the real-life incidents of the 1962 war.
The series is inspired by the true events that take the audience back to November 1962. It narrates the untold story of the lives of 126 Indian soldiers; their bravery and valour while showing how they strategically defeated 3,000 enemy soldiers. This was a battle of courage and strong will and a war that was fought till the last bullet. Not only does the story refer to the circumstances and situations but also to the recent Galwan Valley Clash.
A first look into the trailer shows flashes of headlines on a screen about the rising tension between India and China along with the clash in Galwan Valley. Then, it takes the audience back to 1962 with a flashback captioned “Where it all began.” After giving us a sneak peek of the war, we see Abhay Deol, the army major fighting against the Chinese army.
The Real Story of 1962 series on Hotstar:
On October 20, 1962, there was a massive war that broke out between India and China. This war began when the People’s Liberation Army of China invaded two Indian territories of Ladhak and Arunachal Pradesh. There was a three-week cease-fire between the two nations and the war lasted till November 21st. The Indian side did not prepare for the war of this intensity as compared to China. By the end of the war, 3,250 Indian soldiers were killed and the country lost 43,000 square kilometers to China.
In 2020, there was a clash between the People’s Liberation Army and the Indian army in the Galwan Valley, with casualties on both sides. This led to an increased amount of tension between the two nations.
A Look at the Cast of 1962: The War In The Hills –
Gill announced her role in the film through Instagram saying, “I get to play a pivotal role in 1962: The War In The Hills, not as a soldier but as a proud army wife. I believe that families who support our jawaans through everything are also heroes. .” She described her character named Shagun as your not-so-typical- army wife that we have seen together. The series is also about her fighting her own battles and demons.
