Real story of Yaara Movie:
Before you watch the roller coaster ride that life takes these friends on, here’s what you should know about ‘Les Lyonnais’, the French film that inspired ‘Yaara’
‘Les Lyonnais’ is a 2011 French film, also known as ‘A Gang Story’ in English. Directed by Olivier Marchal and based on the memoirs of gangster Edmond Vidal, the storyline is based on the friendship between two gangsters. Vidal and Serge Suttel came from underprivileged backgrounds and became fast friends at a young age when the two were arrested for stealing cherries. Moving to the future, the film has the two, now adults, form a gang called ‘Gang des Lyonnais’ (Gang of Lyonnais). They work the city of Lyon in the 60s and 70s, with armed robberies, but it comes to a standstill as Suttel is arrested.
While Suttel is in prison, Vidal enters a peaceful stage without crime. However, it doesn’t last long as his dark past comes back to haunt him, leading him to get Suttel out of jail and also some of the latter’s unpaid debts coming to light. The film was inspired by the real-life gang with a similar storyline. And now we get to see it with an Indian lens. Action and crime are Dhulia’s forte, so we’re expecting this to be a good watch.
