Lead queen Vidya Balan is back as Sherni on Amazon Prime today, and here’s why it will be your next best watch this weekend.

Besides the interesting story angle, Vidya Balan as Vidya Vincent, an Indian Forest Services (IFS) officer, is seen shattering the many patriarchal stereotypes without even making noise. And just that female-led narrative with a powerful script is reason enough to watch Sherni

Sherni movie cast & story —

Directed by Amit V Masurkar, a filmmaker who skyrocketed to fame with his second feature film, Newton, which was also selected as the Indian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards, Sherni looks more than promising. While Balan maintains her composure and demure disposition in a high-pressure, male-dominated job, she is also breaking the ceiling with her equally high-pressure silence. Simple yet significant is the look Vidya Balan is going for in Sherni, which adds flying colours of resilience to her character.

Situated in the picturesque forests and locales of Madhya Pradesh, the story revolves around a female forest officer who, while battling the man-nature conflict, is challenging the sexist stereotypes of a largely male-dominated field in India. The actor seems to be in perfect form as she gears up to trace an unsettled tigress who has caused an uproar in the local area, literally as well as metaphorically. While people inhabiting areas around the forest are concerned about safety, officers exchange words about the threat level of an upset tigress at loose. And in the midst of all this are also those officers that are challenged by the real Sherni and the tigress lose in the jungle.

The two-line official synopsis of the film reads as follows, “A jaded forest officer (Vidya Balan) leads a team of trackers and locals intending to capture an unsettled tigress while battling intense obstacles and pressures, both natural and man-made.”

Sherni also stars Sharat Saxena, Vijay Raaz, Ila Arun, Brijendra Kala, Neeraj Kabi, and Mukul Chaddha in supporting roles.
