It’s that time of the year again – festivities, weddings, ideal weather, and feasts. As the year winds down, celebrations ring up. In sync with the season, music festivals are in full swing. Here we’ve listed the five music festivals in India you absolutely wouldn’t want to miss.

Ziro Festival of Music

‘India’s Greatest Outdoor Festival’ starts today. So yes, if you’re planning a trip to Arunachal Pradesh or an impromptu trip is your calling, either way it’s going to be worth the effort. The independent artists’ festival has 27 artists and bands performing in Ziro Valley this year. The line-up includes the likes of The Dharavi Dream Project, Lucky Ali, Still Waters, Pendulum Swing, and This Chord. The hills, (optional) camping, great and inexpensive food, and a not-to-be-missed local rice beer; you’ll get to celebrate a lot more at this festival beyond some brilliant music.

Magnetic Fields

Arguably the country’s most fun music festival, Magnetic Fields’ seventh edition is here. The festival is held every year in December in Alsisar Mahal, a 17th century palace in Shekhawati, Rajasthan. Eclectic and ‘forward thinking’ music as the organisers call it, reverberates through the palace during these three days. This year’s line-up has the F16s, The Black Madonna, Ross From Friends, DJ Lag, Nazira, Chhabb, and Pulpy Shilpi among others. Along with great music acts with a focus on artists from India, Magnetic Fields is known for its perfect Rajasthan experience. Over the course of these three days, the revelers also get a glimpse into the vibrant local culture interspersed with parties, food and drinks, treasure hunts, and kite flying.

Bacardi Nh7 Weekender

Completing 10 years, expect the ‘Happiest Music Festival’ to up the ante this year. Returning to Pune and Meghalaya, Bacardi NH7 Weekender will have artists from India and around the world covering a whole range of music. The Meghalaya line-up has names like Raja Kumari, Lifafa, When Chai Met Toast, Shubha Mudgal, Imphal Talkies, Antariksh and many more. While Pune also shares a few names from the Meghalaya line-up, there’s also Bhayanak Maut, Pengshui, MadStarBase, Black Letters, Swadesi and more. Four stages across two days at the former and six stages across three days at the latter will be accompanied by ‘bazaars’, which will house local fashion, food, and other retail therapy for you to indulge in.
What’s more? The Pune festival also has a comedy segment. Find some of the country’s most popular stand-up comedians here. Kanan Gill, Aadar Malik, Neeti Palta, Urooj Ashfaq, and Kenny Sebastian are some of the artists performing at the energetic Bacardi Nh7 Weekender this year.

Not a festival, but this concert tour deserves a mention in the list, and it’s a long-awaited one. Starting and ending in India, the tour will span across USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Spain. In India, he will play at concerts in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Surat, Chandigarh, Pune, and Hyderabad. Songs of romance, heartbreak, and evolution that connect with the millennials is what rocketed Kuhad to fame, and his consistent churning out songs that tug at your heartstrings have kept him at the top of the charts. OnePlus Music Festival

This one’s mixing things up on the Indian music festival scene, with a focus on international artists. No.1 position holders on various international charts, Katy Perry and Dua Lipa will be performing at the OnePlus Music Festival in Mumbai. Homegrown artists will be a part of the line-up featuring Amit Trivedi, Ritviz, aswekeepsearching, and The Local train. Pure music is what you’ll find at the OnePlus Music Festival.

Sure it’s not a music fest per se, but a U2 concert in the country is a pretty big deal. U2 is finally performing in India, and they’ve picked Mumbai for their maiden show in the country. The Joshua Tree tour, which started in 1987 and has continued for 32 years, is coming home on December 15. The tickets for the show will be available from October 1, and can be purchased here. This is one performance you don’t want to miss.
