Roastery Coffee House

The newest arrival in the neighbourhood is the Roastery Coffee House located on the ground floor of the quaint South India Club. With chequered patio and cosy interiors, it has a retro charm reminiscent of the colonial era. Coffee lovers take note: The city finally has a place that takes its coffee as seriously as you do. The menu features a wide variety of brews from cold and nitro to pour overs and the delicious ice cream blends. What’s recommended? Cold Brew Cinnamon Cascara (a cascara is the sun-dried husk of the coffee cherry).

In addition to classics like Bhapa Maach (steamed Bhetki fish) and Luchi O Cholar Dal ( lentils and fried flatbreads served with aubergine fritters), they have some incredibly indulgent snacks. Try the delectable Mangshor Chop  (deep fried mutton croquet) or the vegetarian alternative Mochar Chop (fried banana blossoms), both tasty traditional delicacies.

Mrs Magpie

best cafes in Kolkata

One of the first cafes to open in this neighbourhood, Mrs Magpie’s candy-striped walls and quirky aesthetic will make you feel like you’ve wandered into Alice’s tea party. It’s a perfect place for a cosy catch up with the girls, complete with a menu that features caramel cupcakes, blackcurrant scones, ham and cheese quiches, and a range of finger foods and sandwiches. However, if you must try one thing on the menu, we recommend the rich, hot, and sinful chocolate.

The Tea Place Kolkata

Tea enthusiasts will love the elegance of this classic English tearoom. The Tea Place manufactures their own tea, so one can choose from their wide variety of teas including eight types of Darjeeling tea alone. If you are looking for a light tea, try their First Flush or Oriental Beauty, made from the tender first leaves and buds of the season. If you need something a little stronger with a more robust aroma, you could try the Autumnal. The tea is served with a tiny hourglass so you never have an over-brewed cup.
