Diets are here today, gone tomorrow. But the one that has stuck through is the ketogenic diet or the keto diet. A low carb, high-fat diet that encourages the inclusion of more fats like butter and cheese as well as proteins, while drastically reducing the intake of carbs, it puts the body in a state of ketosis, which enables rapid weight loss. With more people turning pro-keto, restaurants in Mumbai have taken a cue, drawing keto-oriented menus.
According to Chef Sandip Dalvi, head chef, Jamjar Diner, “The keto diet has evolved from being a mere fad to something people are following religiously. So it’s only natural that you have the option of choosing keto-friendly dishes at restaurants.” Aditya Wanwari, co-founder, Kale and Kaffé, echoes a similar sentiment, pointing out that it was only a matter of time before restaurants started embracing the need for keto-friendly dishes on their menus. Today, everyone from celebrities to people looking at major lifestyle changes are trying keto, he notes.
Similarly, Ranbir Nagpal, partner, Yazu: Pan-Asian Supper Club, says that within three months of launching the restaurant, they also introduced a keto menu, so guests could indulge in their favourite Asian cuisine without any guilt. “So far, the response has been great and shows that at least for now, this trend is here to stay.”
