Onam Sadhya is the traditional Malayalam feast served on the day of the festival. 24 vegetarian dishes laid out on a banana leaf, it’s a one-of-a-kind experience. If you’re wondering what will you get in it, here are the usual ones: Chena varuthatha (yam chips), mango and lime pickles, sarkara upperi (jaggery coated banana chips), puli inji (tamarind & ginger chutney), pachadi (Pineapple in yoghurt), olan ( ash gourd with black beans in a coconut milk gravy), stir-fried vegetables with grated coconut, theeyal (mixed vegetable gravy), ghiya khichadi, erissery (mashed beans and pumpkin with coconut gravy), Kaaya varuthatha (banana chips), avial, puliserry (yoghurt-based curry), kootu curry (black chickpeas curry), sambar, rasam, spicy buttermilk, bananas, papad, and of course boiled rice.
