Rooftops lounges and Bengaluru are a beautiful paring just like gin and tonic or crispy pork belly and ramen. Mirage, a 140-seater rooftop lounge in Ashok Nagar, in central Bengaluru is the latest addition to the culinary scene and has an underlying theme of the ocean running through the space, its cocktails and its extensive menu. Mirage works great for a weekday indulgent lunch (or an impress-the-client meal) and at night, turns into a chic space for a night out.

Walk into Mirage and you step into a space that has come to life from the illusionary mind of a man. On one side, you have a wall covered with the dreaded Medusa, adding a brilliant pop of color to a space that is otherwise done up in hues of copper and blue. Around, you will see elements of the sea – undulating white and blue partitions, a roof that looks like the shiny belly of a fish, fibre lights that bring pillars to life like twinkling stars over the ocean and wall décor of copper seashells.

“The menu is designed to bring high-end Asian fine-dining to the table,” says Chef Vinayak P.  Expect classics, a touch of Nikkei and some interesting innovations on Asian dishes. The Sesame Crusted Tuna is a great start, particularly at the beginning of a leisurely paced meal. Don’t miss the pickled Japanese plum on the platter. A visually lovely take on sashimi is the Rose Buds of the Sea – rosettes of Tuna, Hamachi and Salmon. The apple base it is on lends it a unique flavor. Dimsum lovers can choose from a wide range – The Roasted Qiezi Jiozi (Roasted Eggplant, chilli and coriander), the vegetarian Country Style Dumpling, The Prawn Hargao with dill and XO sauce, make for great beginnings while sipping on some of the Mirage’s signature cocktails.

Gin lovers can try The Odonis – with Kaffir, Honey Foam and Lemonade, and with a surprising, yet balanced touch of whole fennel seeds. The rum-based Half Unicorn Half Mermaid with coconut water, peach syrup and cranberry juice among other ingredients is great for an afternoon indulgence.

Among the appetizers, the Crispy Fried Korean Tofu with Spicy Gochujang and the Carimbo Prawns on Avocado Salsa stand tall in the long list. Perfect for those who like a string of small plates on a night out. The Khaosuey with the works, or a choice from the Ramen section can wrap up the mains. The Yuzu and Miso Cheesecake is worth the guilt, if that’s what you feel when you can’t put a dessert spoon down.

At Mirage, there is nothing illusionary about the ambience, food and drink. Ideally located, it’s the perfect place to set aside that laptop, loosen the tie, kick off your heels and indulge.
