In the past week, we’ve seen two B-Town superstars drive home luxury chariots. Kartik Aaryan treats himself to an all-black and elegant Lamborghini Urus, while Arjun Kapoor goes in for something more brutish – The new Land Rover Defender. Here’s all about these fresh whips.
We all know that Bollywood celebrities are no slouch about flexing luxury vehicles and living large. Right from supersport to ultra-luxe, B-Town and its actors own them all. However, if you surf through all these lavish car collections, you’ll find a few similarities. We’re talking specifically about Lamborghinis and JLRs. For years now, the Raging Bull has offered a plethora of spectacular speedsters, which have been commonly spotted in celebrity garages worldwide. But in 2019, they brought forth the Urus, which also garnered the same appeal amongst celebrities. And so did the JLRs.
The Land Rovers and the Range Rovers, a celebrity staple right from B-Town to Beverly Hills. Joining these supercar cults are two Bollywood celebrities: Arjun Kapoor and Kartik Aaryan. The former with the new and evolved Land Rover Defender and the latter with a ground-rumbling Lamborghini Urus. Here’s all you need to know about these new rides.
Both cars are globally acclaimed as they embrace very different personalities from each other. As SUVs, they’re two completely different breeds of motoring. Let’s talk about Arjun Kapoor and his Land Rover Defender first. They brought in a 2021 Land Rover Defender 110 First Edition. JLR India offers this brute in two engine forms – The P300 AWD with a 2.0-litre petrol engine The P400 AWD with a 3.0-litre petrol engine. Prices for the two vary between Rs 1.13 cr and Rs 1.21 cr, respectively. We got out hands on this sweet ride too, read all about it here.
Based on the new D7X platform and sports a monocoque chassis, the top-spec Defender holds a 3.0-litre Ingenium Turbocharged I4 that can churn out 550-Nm of torque and 394-horsepower. In terms of dimensions, the Defender is taller than the Urus by nearly 300-mm at 1967-mm, yet tighter in terms of length by 100-mm or so at 5018-mm. Upon close inspection, you’ll see that Land Rover has added tons of elements to pay homage to the original Defender. This includes Aluminium castings on the windows and the split taillights that now get LED treatment. Overall, the Defender maintains a very muscular boxy silhouette. Kapoor also owns an Audi Q5, the current-gen Honda CR-V and a slick Maserati Levante.
On the other hand, we have the Urus. While the Defender is meant for adventure and the wild, the Urus offers a different expression of luxury motoring. It’s built to bring the grunge of a Lamborghini to larger dimensions. The same power-cruising experience and Italian suave, just more space.
Under the hood, rests a 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 engine. The motor pumps out 641-bhp and 850-Nm of peak torque. This comes paired with 8-speed automatic transmission. The Urus can leap from 0 to 62-mph in 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 190-mph. On the outside, Kartik Aaryan opted for an all-black paint job. In terms of price, the Urus costs Rs 3.1 crore onwards.
