Citroën C5 Aircross: The French house debuts their first car in India

Bringing more than a hundred years of French motoring heritage, the Citroën C5 Aircross readies up as the brand’s first car to arrive in India.

Citroën have a proud reputation of resilience and innovation. They’ve stood the test of time and always believed in reinventing, which is why today they have more than 300 models to their name. As they drop another pin on the map today with India, the brand comes forth with the C5 Aircross, a mid-sized SUV with two variants – Feel and Shine. Said to be available at 10 dealerships across the country, the French maison seem keen on playing their chips on India’s rapidly growing compact-SUV market. Prices starting at Rs 29 lakh.

The Citroën C5 Aircross will arrive in a sole diesel variant. Which will be a 177-horsepower, 2.0-litre engine that can stretch up to a claimed 18.6 km/litre and produce 400-Nm of torque, which will be paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, perfectly economical for its caliber. The C5’s face truly stands out. The headlights feature Halogen headlamps with LED DRLs which are accompanied by a smaller-than-usual grille. The massive 4,500-mm long cruiser is grounded by 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, we see an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. For the driver, there’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument screen. In terms of intelligence, the car has Hands-free parking, Keyless Entry-and-Go, Dual-zone climate control, Cruise control and many more cooler tech features. The Shine variant, gets a panoramic sunroof,  LED headlamps and  hands-free tailgate opening, a more stylish option, if you ask us.

As per reports, assembly of the cars will take place at the CK Birla facility in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. The SUV will come with a standard 3-year/1 lakh km warranty, along with roadside assistance. Soon, the C5 Aircross will take a turn towards local manufacturing under the company’s C-Cubed program to keep up with the ‘Made-In-India’ ethos

The C5 Aircross launches today at Rs 29 lakh onwards. However, Citroen has also announced its subscription-based model for the C5 Aircross SUV. The French carmaker has launched the initiative where customers can drive a C5 Aircross SUV for Rs 49,999 per month.
