Small is big: The Mini Cooper S JCW is ready for summer cruising in India

Bred for free-spirited yet luxurious drives, there’s no denying the Mini Cooper‘s youthful appeal for luxe bohemians. Now BMW has debuted its newest model, the Mini Cooper S JCW in India, which takes this appeal to a new level. For starters, the charm of the Mini hatchback now comes injected with a sportier silhouette. The older variant of the Cooper S has a sexier and more powerful three-door, the main reason the sportiness of this alter-ego is pronounced.

Surged with 228-HP, the new JCW pulls 0-100-mph in 6.1 seconds

Another reason for the sportier edge is the bolder double racing stripes to the front that complement the GT-styled rear fenders. Overall, the update is more mechanical than cosmetic, the JCW being much like the Cooper S except for the fenders.

This version has a 2-litre engine that develops 228-bhp and 320-Nm of torque. This power is sent to the wheels through an 8-speed Steptronic sport gearbox, which means that it will accelerate to 100-kph from a stand-still, in 6.1 seconds. Now, to keep all that power under control, the car comes with some safety features as standard, such as brake assist, crash sensor, ABS, DSC, run-flat indicator, cornering brake control, and 3-point seat-belts.

Staying true to classic Mini hatch-back silhouettes, the new JCW will be grounded by 17-inch wheels, front and rear. The Mini JCW also gets larger 4-piston Brembo brakes. Oddly, the JCW’s 8.8-inch touchscreen only operates ApplePlay. Overall, the car is an expression of minimised and compact adrenaline as well as luxury.

The Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works variant has been priced at Rs 43.5 lakhs.
