The legacy of the Triumph Bonneville dates to a delicate time capsule between the two World Wars. With consistent modernising through decades of motoring, they astonishingly still manage to stay true to the classic 1938 chassis, the 2019 Speed Twin is Triumph’s paean to the Bonneville bloodline. The Speed Twin linage is traditionally known for its style but is now backed by a strong performance factor too. Based off the Thruxton R and the Bonneville, the new Speed Twin’s skeletal silhouette is an aggressive fusion of sport, legacy and luxury.
The Speed Twin’s engine has been updated to a power-gliding 1200-cc HP Bonneville twin-engine with a ‘Thruxton’ tune. As a pure rider’s bike, we see a Triumph signature Brembo brakes locked on, the most reliable we’ve seen. Of-course, those would be a necessity when facing the power of 96 horses produced by its engine. In comparison to its predecessor, Triumph’s new roadster comes with 50% more power and 40% more torque.
The 2019 Speed Twin is packed with badgework detailing from head-to tail. Badges of ‘Speed Twin’ are seen on the handle, rear suspension plate and tail. Triumph have also included a high-specification suspension set, for suitability on road as well as terrain.
We also see aluminium brushed mud-guards complimenting the headlamp detailing. While riding, your left thumb helps you set your riding mode effortlessly with three modes: Rain, Road & Sport. Each mode comes with customised clutch and torque control, making this bike an absolute all-rounder. The new Speed Twin comes in three colourways – Jet Black, Korosi Red and Silver Ice.
What we liked
The Speed Twin has always been about elegant riding, and the British free-spirited silhouette makes for an effortless allure. Triumph’s been working on improving its handling and it certainly shows with this variant, the handle is much more dynamic in shape which is important when sporting three diverse riding modes. In terms of detailing, the vintage appeal and aluminium chrome-work came in a perfect dosage. For an ex-showroom price of Rs. 9,46,000, this is like investing in a slice of Bonneville heritage.
