2019 kickstarted a new era of the foldable phone and Huawei had already joined the bandwagon with its 5G Huawei Mate X, which was released in late February last year. Now, it’s bringing its new and improved sister, the Huawei Mate Xs to the game.
What’s so new about this?
In a nutshell, the Huawei Mate Xs builds on the Mate X, with stronger, more powerful SoC, and unique mechanical hinge design.
The improved version comes with a refined version of the Falcon Wing Design for its foldable feature. It features more than 100 interlocking parts, which minimises the crease on the unfolded screen, delivering a seamless viewing experience.
The upgraded model will also see an upgrade in the phone’s SoC: It comes with a Kirin 990 5G chipset, which includes an integrated 5G modem. Glaraphics processing is handled by the 16-core Mali-G76 GPU, the most powerful GPU on Huawei handsets. This means an enhancement of image quality on the screen, making them sharper to provide users with the most immersive viewing experience possible.
In terms of its camera specifications, the Mate Xs is identical to the Mate X, with a Lecia Quad Camera that features the 40MP SuperSensing Wide camera, 16MP Ultra-Wide camera, 8MP Telephoto camera and 3D Depth Sensing camera.
How much is it, and where can I get my hands on this?

Butterfingers need not worry, as customers are entitled to a one-year warranty coverage within the first year of purchase, as well as a one-time screen replacement with 50 percent of fees waived.
