The OnePlus 9 Series has made its presence known. As the brand’s new swanky flagships, there’s serious talk about the new camera and how it takes on other flagship heavyweights in the Android scene.

Over the years, whenever we’ve heard the name OnePlus, we’ve always thought of them as the one who brings out more, for lesser. It’s about getting the big scoop, without the big price-tag. We could say that their brand was built around this ethos in their early years. Today, they go head-to-head with the titans of the Android smartphone world with flagships that drive a serious bargain, yet, with a smaller price-tag. However, we’re seeing a slight bump-up this year.

Fresh out the oven is the OnePlus 9 Series comprising of a standard, a budget-oriented 9R and Pro variant. We’ll be focusing on the standard and Pro variant though. More so, the camera department has been given special attention too this time. Let’s talk about why.

OnePlus 9 Pro Price, Camera, Specs, Release Date

OnePlus 9 Pro

Let’s begin with design. In a OnePlus first, the camera dock has been shifted from center to left, just like the Nord. This, of course, will be the new constant for the brand as left-focused camera setups are pretty much an industry standard at this point. The body seems very typical of OnePlus or an Android today – The subtle screen spill-over and the punch hole camera display. Interestingly, we’re also seeing a very glossy, mirror-back finish this time called ‘Morning Mist’ that we really like. There’s also a metal rail all along the phone, I wonder how fingerprint stain resistant that would be though.

OnePlus 9 Pro

The 9 flexes a 6.5″ while the elder gets a 6.7″ diagonal display that comes in pure 120-Hz, Fluid AMOLED glory. Powering this is a top-of-the-line Qualcomm® Snapdragon™888 that’s paired with an Adreno 660 GPU. In terms of RAM, you get to choose between 8 and 12 gigs which is in respect to 128 and 256 gigs of storage. Both devices also get a gargantuan 4,500-mAh of battery that supports Warp Charge 65T  but the 9 Pro also supports 50W wireless charging. You must be wondering, if the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro look the same, nearly run the same and even have the same engine underneath, what separates the two? Well, it’s the camera.

If you flip your phone over, you’ll see two big rings and two small rings, or maybe just one if you’re holding the standard 9. Both pack a 48-mp Primary camera and a 50-mp Ultra-Wide lens. They also get a 2-mp Monochrome camera. The margin between the 9 and 9 Pro, is an 8-mp Telephoto camera. You also get a cool 16-mp front camera for selfie indulgences. But don’t get lost within the numbers here. Yes, the main attraction of the OnePlus 9 is actually in their camera department but not because of the numbers, but the name. They collaborated with Hassellad, a Swedish pioneer in photography over these finely-tuned lens.

While the OnePlus 9 5G begins at Rs 49,999, the Pro begins at Rs 64,999. Details of availability are listed on the company website.
