The ever changing face of fashion got a stylish kickstart this year with the 15th edition of Blenders Pride Fashion Tour, which promises to celebrate all things Indian design.
The narrative of ‘pride’ has always been the halo for Blenders Pride Fashion Tour. For more than a decade now the platform has been avidly promoting Indian designers to showcase their style and design in the most innovative ways possible. The unique path charted over the years dwells upon imbibing one’s style with pride, embracing one’s individuality, and celebrating achievements. Edition after edition, the concept and vision have evolved in a way that has a strong connect with today’s youth, and most importantly, built a rich legacy in the fashion space by associating not just with the largest names in the industry but with Bollywood as well.
To celebrate the big 15, the platform is upping the ante — going beyond runway shows, Blenders Pride Fashion Tour has created a path-breaking format of a series of events to mark its milestone year. Envisaged as grand ‘Festival of Fashion’ adding a special microfestival to the iconic show with innovative concepts like Collection Gallery, The Showcase, and Style Forum (curated by renowned designer Ashish Soni) to celebrate a whole new world of fashion.
The 15th edition is a mega celebration of fashion, celebrating themes like Craft, Blend and Identity along with the Showcase – a talent hunt launched in October. The Exhibit will highlight iconic pieces by a mix of emerging and famed designers. Winners of the Showcase this year include designers Ikshit Pande of Quod, Sushant Abrol of Countrymade, and Stanzin Palmo of Zilzom, and models Ritu Chauhan, Poojan Solanki, and Preethy Karan, who will be part of the current edition. At the Style Forum, there will be an exchange of ideas among industry stalwarts on game-changing influences in the fashion arena.
The fashion extravaganza starts this month with a 360-degree fashion tour that highlights the central themes of ‘craft’, ‘blend’, and ‘identity’ in a never-seen-before way. Industry stalwarts like Anamika Khanna, Manish Malhotra, and Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla will present their interpretations of their themes in the form of shows in Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Delhi. The tour is all about taking each designer’s core, and celebrating it with the city that best exemplifies their oeuvre. The designers have worked on collections that embody these themes, with carefully chosen muses who evoke the same emotion. The recently held preview saw Rhea Kapoor provide inspiration for Anamika Khanna, Kusha Kapila for Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla, and Kiara Advani for Manish Malhotra.
“Each designer is a representation of an expression of Blenders Pride Fashion Tour. Anamika Khanna represents ‘My Craft, My Pride’ in Kolkata, a theme that brings alive her sense of pride in craftsmanship. Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla’s theme is ‘My Blend, My Pride’ because the duo is all about taking inspiration and reviving traditions from around the country, and then blending it to create the magical mix that is an Abu- Sandeep garment. Manish Malhotra, whose theme is ‘My Identity, My Pride’, re-crafts his own identity on a canvas of technology for the Hyderabad chapter. This will be a celebration of his own style, which in turn is an expression of his identity,” explains Kartik Mohindra, CMO, Pernod Ricard India.
In this landmark year, Blenders Pride Fashion Tour has also collaborated with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), credited for not just giving the Indian fashion industry a cohesive voice but also putting the country on the international fashion map. “We are proud to associate with Blenders Pride Fashion Tour in its iconic 15th year, and further add to the magnanimity of the property. With both FDCI and Blenders Pride Fashion Tour being definitive names in the fashion space, we feel that we are perfectly positioned to showcase our combined strengths with our shared synergies,” elaborates Sunil Sethi, president of the FDCI.
The association will culminate in a Grand finale in Mumbai — a spectacular multi-designer show featuring 15 design behemoths including Anju Modi, JJ Vallaya, Raghavendra Rathore, Suneet Varma, Gaurav Gupta, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Abraham & Thakore, Wendell Rodricks, Monisha Jaising, Namrata Joshipura, Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna, Anamika Khanna, Manish Malhotra, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and Ashish Soni — titled ‘The Pride of India’, a first for Blenders Pride Fashion Tour.
No doubt the 2020 fashion calendar is off to an incredible start.
