Business is booming for the sneaker cult. Business Insider valued the sneaker resale market at US $1 billion towards the end of 2018, with other reports suggesting the overall athletic footwear market could grow to around US $95.14 billion by 2025. With that said, the sneaker-sphere had its own set of hits and misses in the last year. Although, 2019 has just begun and we’ve already spotted a few eye-catchers (5, to be precise) that are ready to take on this year on the right foot.

1
Nike’s Chinese New Year Air Max 98 “Year of the Pig”

As a part of Nike’s Chinese New Year Collection, this mandarin-inspired Air Max 98 flexes pure 2000s design and elements from traditional Chinese heritage. The pair will be available for retail on Nike’s online store around late January, just before we begin the Chinese New Year. The Air Max 98’s distinctive fluid lines are covered in snakeskin print, patent leather, fur, nubuck, and traditional Chinese artwork. Guarantying excellent sole comfort and perfect textural blending, the swoosh branding has been shrunk. Pricing for this mandarin pair will be disclosed at the time of its launch.

The Shoe Surgeon’s Lux “Menta” Air Jordan 1 OFF-WHITE x Nike

The sole says it all, “PYTHON.” This Off-White x Nike collaboration takes inspiration from South American serpentines, of-course with a touch of Virgil Abloh. The sneaker is crafted using Paloma gray matte python, light gray suede, and white Japanese plonge leather. A green, blue, and red gradient Swoosh recalls Virgil Abloh’s “Menta” OFF-WHITE x Nike Air Max 97. The pair is currently available at Nike’s online store and priced at US $3,500.

3
JW Anderson x Converse

Dubbed as the ‘Run Star Hike’ this pair of Converse is the quintessential modernized classic on this list. The pair was first introduced in September and will be a part of Converse’s SS19 collection. The massive heel and sole are protected with Skecher-style outer-grip soles. While being all white with a dash of contrasting beige and blue heal and sole, the striking black linking can be seen. Marked as a Converse signature. The white version of the Run Star Hike notes the date of “1917” beside the patch on the canvas upper, signifying the debut of the All Star. The pair will be up for retail seclusively online at US $199.
