Known for its high-quality crystals and genuine gemstones, Austrian luxury giant Swarovski recently appointed fashion consultant Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert as its first-ever company-wide creative director.
The 125-year-old brand is re-envisioning itself, and Engelbert is supposed to oversee the full creative direction and work on product portfolio across all divisions. Besides this, the first set of products created by her will be a part of the brand’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection.
“For decades, Swarovski has been illuminating the world of fashion, design, entertainment, in general, the whole creative industry'” said Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert. “I am thrilled to be leading the creative vision of a cultural powerhouse like Swarovski in the future”.
For those attuned to the international street style scene, Engelbert is not a new name. A fashion consultant for nearly two decades, she has served as a Senior fashion editor at Vogue Japan and a contributing editor at W Magazine. Her keen eye to fuse luxury with a sense of quirk got her collaborations with brands such as Carolina Herrera, Dolce & Gabbana, Michael Kors, Christian Dior, Max Mara, and Tory Burch to name a few.
But her unique sense of street style made her a favourite among shutterbugs. And be it Milan, Paris or New York, her unapologetically glamorous fashion choices have always garnered rave reviews. Since 2016, Engelbert was serving as a consultant in her capacity as Creative Director for Swarovski Swarovski Professional, brand’s B2B division.
“Our 125-year history is a witness for the power of our company to transform and reinvent itself, and I am pleased to welcome a brilliant creative mind and a strong female leader like Giovanna to our company”, said Robert Buchbauer, CEO Swarovski. “With her remarkable track record in the industry and compelling point of view, she will explore new frontiers and become a vital part in writing the next chapter of our success story”.
Swarovski has been a long time favourite among luxury brands and is celebrated for a large spectrum of collaborations with labels. Just last season they collaborated with labels such as Missoni, Koché and Christopher John Rogers.
