Gucci’s SS ’19 campaign

Gucci SS'19

Alessandro Michele never lets it get boring. His latest campaign is inspired by cult classics such as ‘An American in Paris’ (1951), ‘The Band Wagon’ (1953), ‘Cover Girl’ (1944), ‘There’s No Business Like Show Business’ (1954), ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ (1953) and ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ (1952), conjuring up images of Hollywood in the 50s. Shot and directed by Glen Luchford, the campaign delivers maximum glitz and glamour, with models wearing pink fur coats, green power suits, dramatic headpieces, and everything harking back to the golden era of the silver screen.

From a track list inspired by old Punjabi folk songs, to medicinal ‘churans’ which were consumed in every Indian household as digestives, to metallic serveware, various objects sought to define how he sees India. A performance by folk artists from Rajasthan added to the occasion, which saw attendance by designers Aneeth Arora, Suket Dhir, and Gaurav Gupta.

It was while studying fashion journalism at London College of Fashion that Anupam developed a keen interest in the anthropological aspect of the discipline; for him, fashion only makes sense when seen in the context of its environment. He is always on the hunt for great stories, and in his spare time binge-watches films/shows starring Whoopi Goldberg, Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders.
