Accessories, particularly bags, are the crowning glory of any ensemble. They promise much flair and visual interest, giving them the power to make or break a look. And as the Indian design industry burgeons, several homegrown brands are adding bags to their collections to boast a better-rounded repertoire. We round up seven such Indian bag designers we are crushing on.
Sabyasachi has made an art of churning out bestsellers with every collection, and this goes beyond his coveted bridal wear. This list on Indian bag designers would be incomplete sans his signature oval box clutches, particularly with the Bengal Tiger logo, is equally lust list worthy. Solid colours in supple leather that will pair with everything in your wardrobe or the more ornate variations for festive celebrations, take your pick.
Manish Arora is not lauded as the king of kitsch for nothing. The designer’s inimitable use of bold colours and accents is unparalleled, and this reflects in his accessories as well. From eclectic shapes like planets and tiered cakes to rainbow-hued spangles, few can do look-at-me bags quite like Arora.
The couturier’s latest range of bejewelled clutches is predominantly embellished with hand-sewn pearls and crystals, high on glamour and sophistication alike. The structured evening bags needn’t be restricted to the wedding season, as they can easily lend an interesting twist to your party wardrobe as well.
Delhi-based Rimzim Dadu is celebrated for her signature take on metallic yarns and its singular construction. She forwards this agenda to her newly launched collection of bags — a mix of bucket bags, totes and clutches — using high-shine metallic threads in shapes that are equal parts sculpted and fluid.
Shivan & Narresh
You can always count on this designer duo to inject getaway glamour to your wardrobe, be it with their swimwear, cover-ups, or look-at-me bags. While the designers have dabbled with printed beach totes in the past, their SS’19 collection is replete with duffel bags, slings and fanny pouches in animal-inspired shapes that are sure to become conversation starters.
This high fashion jewellery brand has been a go-to for statement-making jewels for occasions ranging from weekend soirees to destination weddings. Last year, coinciding with co-founder Kaabia Grewal’s bachelorette party in Greece, the brand introduced a limited selection of leather and jute fanny packs, and clear bucket bags tailor-made for beach holidays.
Ridhi Mehra’s contemporary take on traditional silhouettes extends to her collection of evening bags as well. Box bags, slings and potlis ideal for festive occasions, these are often spruced with the designer’s signature prints, pearl hangings and tassels.
