Our brands

On our October sneaker calendar, this month’s theme was cross-cultural mega collaborations. These are the best new sneakers on our radar.

From Onitsuka Tiger to Nike to adidas, all major players have used the lockdown regulations as an opportunity to introduce new designs, launches of which were previously delayed. Sneaker geeks now have a wide variety to choose, from running shoes to style-forward pieces — this means bold colours, performance silhouettes, and of course, a new theme of recycling. We round up the best new sneakers that launched over the last couple of weeks.

Reebok x Ghostbusters capsule

best new sneakers

It’s paranormal season once again, and Reebok and Sony have teamed up to celebrate this spooky occasion. Grab your EMF ghost hunting sensor, strap up these Reebok x Ghostbusters kicks, and get busting. The capsule comes in two colourways: High-top white and low-top beige, classic GB tones. Both pairs come with retro-themed motifs while the white comes with an EMF sensor wired to its upper heal. Right under Reebok’s badge, we also see the logo of the Ghostbuster franchise. Certainly quirky, yet a collector’s item, more so, a great Halloween fit.

While some run to tune out, others run to tune in. And this right here is the freshest from the three-stripe running lab to facilitate in that affair. It takes inspiration from Gen Z, where sports, athleisure, and video games are the pillars of their life. Said to have been designed after Cyberpunk’s neo-grunge aesthetic, we certainly see it in terms of colour and aggressive cuts. It packs an engineered knit textile upper and a Responsible Boost Midsole. To allow a year-round dynamic, the outsole has been designed for grip in changing weather conditions as well.

Nike Air Max 97

Did you know that the 97s were actually designed after Japanese bullet trains – A perfect combo of swish and ‘swoosh’. Creating another ripple, the new Air Max 97s arrive in an elegant-as-always, rainbow colourway. It lets you push your style full-speed ahead with sharp details and a vibrant set of colours. In our opinion, this may be a classic but its still one of the best new sneakers for those who love wearing loud tones and crisp detailing on their feet. On the inside, the foam midsole provides lightweight, responsive cushioning and on the outside, the hidden lacing system allows for a streamlined look.

Think of this as ASICS’ anniversary gift to us, as they celebrate 30 years of the GEL-LYTE™ III. Collaborating with British hypebeast-favourite END, they’ve introduced a capsule limited to just 66 pairs in India. In a cascade of colours that reflect the soft nature of pearls, it fits perfectly with legendary split tongue structure. This bold, conceptual sneaker is presented with three sets of laces to allow for subtle customisation. We also see a co-branded leather footbed and heel patch.

Price: Rs 13,999

Available at VegNonVeg, Superkicks and select ASICS outlets.

adidas x Beyoncé IVY Park Drip 2

Here’s round two of the adidas and Beyoncé saga, and it takes after Yoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy. Aptly called “Drip 2”, the collection includes apparel, featuring several pieces of performance gear. While unveiling the collection, Beyoncé stated ‘This is my Park’, truly bold. The case in question is the Ivy Park Nite Jogger. The two-tone neon burst of colour comes with the Jogger’s iconic 80s-inspired silhouette. The capsule also includes IVY PARK-motif beanies, socks and fanny packs, and much more.

The HMR Peak G-TX takes after the brand’s iconic Himalayan Peak hiking boot silhouette from 1966. In classic hiking fashion, we see a chunky and rugged outsole, promising the brisk that it always promised. And the upper is also waterproof yet highly lightweight and breathable, keeping you stylish on rainy days too. This is possible, thanks to the GORE-TEX® fabrics upper. On the inside, keeping things comfortable, is the brand’s advanced FLYTEFOAMTM midsole. While being an essential accessory that it’s always been, it’s now a hypebeast-special fashion statement one cannot simply ignore.

Price: Rs 14,999

Available at Onitsuka’s online store.

Reebok Forever Floatride GROW

Here’s a running shoe that’s not only taking care of you but also the environment. Reebok’s latest pair of runners are crafted out of castor bean oil, bloom algae, eucalyptus bark and natural rubber, their first-ever sustainable pair. The new plant-based running shoe is a version of Reebok’s award-winning Forever Floatride Energy 2. Each component was meticulously researched and tested to identify the most sustainable natural ingredients that would meet the high-performance standards required for a best-in-class running shoe. Reebok stated that they’re focusing sustainability efforts under two pillars: Ree-Grow, which focuses on clean creation of products and Ree-Cycle, which focuses on creating products using recycled or repurposed materials, this is the first creation under that stride.
