In an industry notorious for excluding those that don’t fit the conventional mould, the National Award-winning actress has stood her ground. Her perseverance to pick unconventional roles and stay unperturbed by stereotypical beauty and size standards has made her a force to reckon with in the industry. We catch up with Pranay Jaitly, one half of the stylish duo who go by the moniker Who Wore What When on the only thing to keep in mind when dressing up as a curvy woman.

In the Amazon Prime movie, Sherni, Vidya Balan plays a forest officer fighting sexism in the jungle and juggling patriarchal pressures at home. Keeping in line with her role, the looks for Sherni promotions are all inspired by the forest foliage and wildlife. She literally embodies the role of a modern-day tigress with animal printed ensembles, saris with tiger embroideries, forest prints, and more.

The duo has been styling the actress since 2016 and the main consideration keeping in mind her curvy figure has been finding clothes that match her personality more than size. “We are always looking for clothes that bring out her flamboyant personality. So whether it is a sari or an Ind0-western outfit, she is always open to experimentation,” shares Jaitly. A strong patron of Indian handloom styles, the duo is always on the lookout for brands that are not just size-inclusive but also sustainable.

If you ask Jaitly about the do’s and don’ts for dressing up as curvy women, the stylist is quick to reiterate that many women in Bollywood are pushing the envelope to create a more size-inclusive environment. And their most endearing trait is “being comfortable in their own skin”. He does, however, suggest avoiding oversized clothing as that can make you look bigger than you actually are and instead cinching the waist to create a more streamlined effect. So if you’re looking to find inspiration for curvy dressing or simply looking to get Vidya Balan’s uninhibited confidence, then these stylish looks are sure to serve the purpose.
