Meet Young Emperors, the Instagram couple that’s winning at twinning

Millennials have given a new meaning to couple goals. If emotional and physical bonding wasn’t enough, sartorially in-sync couples are now making waves on Instagram. Leading the way are favourite duo Nelson Tiberghien and Isabelle Chaput aka Young Emperors, who are winning at couple twinning, one post at a time.

We’re talking matching outfits like you’ve never seen before: A patterned Marine Serre set for him and her, a pair of (neon) colour coordinated ensembles, and even a two-in-one display of Valentino’s Moncler puffer gowns, as if one wasn’t statement enough.

Of course, Tiberghien and Chaput, or Young Emperors, didn’t invent the art of twinning with your partner. They were inspired by young Korean couples, who have been doing it for a while now. It’s a style trend — and a welcome alternative to public displays of affection — that has proven popular among celebrities too: Check out the laid-back athleisure looks of the Biebers or the prim and proper style of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

But couple style has never looked as fun as Young Emperors’. In their Instagram OOTD posts, the French duo show off their style with playful poses and quirkiness — the kind you’d expect from a Wes Anderson film. And they take photos everywhere, be it the streets of Paris where they met, on holiday in Venice, and more recently, the subways of New York, the city where they are now based.

Unsurprisingly, both Tiberghien and Chaput are creatives. The pair, professionally known as Cesar Love Alexandre, collaborate on design projects like film, fashion photography, and visual performance. When they realised that their synchronicity extended beyond their work to their wardrobes, the couple decided to start an Instagram together.

Young Emperors now have over 80,000 fans fascinated by their uniquely shared sense of style. Individually, Tiberghien and Chaput do not limit their style choices by gender, either. The two frequently choose to wear each other’s clothes, proving the point of several genderless fashion brands.

These days, like the rest of us, Young Emperors have been cooped up at home in quarantine. Thankfully, instead of starting a book club, the pair continues to bring joy to our Instagram feeds with pictures of their outfits, taken on the rooftop of their New York apartment. They have also launched a TikTok account, joining many other style icons.

In trying times like ours, Young Emperors’ Instagram is just the kind of uplifting content we need. It also just goes to show: the couple that wears designer together, stays together.
