We are still in the early days of November, and for those whose birthday falls in this month, it is officially Topaz Season. According to the American Gem Society, topaz is the November birthstone, infused with unique healing energies. Deriving its name from the ancient Greek name for St. John’s Island in the Red Sea ‘topazios’, topaz is often recognised as the symbol of strength and intelligence.

Widely available in the hues of yellow, various experiments can render the gemstone a slight pink, wine-red, green, and blue colour. The most valuable hues range from brownish orange to an exclusive yellow hue, some even featuring a vibrant orange hue with a light pink undertone called ‘imperial topaz’. Although blue topaz may be the most abundant one in the market, we rarely see a natural one. A pure topaz is monochrome but can be tinted by impurities to capture any colour of the rainbow.

From Bulgari to Cartier, some of the leading fine jewellery brands incorporate topaz in exquisite creations. Check out our list of different ways you could style the November birthstone.
