Swiss watchmakers IWC has always embraced the art of engineering and mechanical excellence, and it’s no surprise that they would mark an iconic victory of their champ and brand ambassador, Lewis Hamilton. The final race of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix took place last weekend and unsurprisingly, the house of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport were led to victory by Hamilton for the 6th time in a record-breaking fashion.
In honor of the team stacking 413 points and winning almost half of all races this season, IWC debuted three limited-edition Big Pilots – two for Mercedes-AMG Petronas and a stunning Bordeaux-red piece for Lewis Hamilton that will made available for Indian F1 enthusiasts and collectors as well.
A force to be reckoned with behind the wheel, Lew steps out of the cabin for once and takes an artistic stroke with the watchmakers in Schaffhausen. “There are two things I’m most passionate about – craftsmanship and design. And I am so pleased with the result.” Lewis Hamilton stated on co-designing his first limited edition Big Pilot with IWC.

Co-designed by the six-time world champ and true style icon himself, we must say that this edition is one of the most stunning pieces of luxury streetwear right now. Limited to just 100, this timepiece is cased out of pure black zirconium oxide ceramic with an alluring Bordeaux-red dial. To elegantly contrast this, the indexes, hands, and case-back are made out of 18-carat 5N gold.
Inside, the IWC 52615 manufacture calibre maintains its mechanical accuracy. Featuring IWC’s own Pellaton winding system, the timepiece boasts a perpetual calendar function capable of displaying the date, day, month, and year as well as the lunar phase. The open case-back also features a a ‘Lewis Hamilton’ and unique limited-edition number engraved there.
The Big Pilot’s Perpetual Calendar Edition “Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport”
As a tribute to the latest Petronas victory, IWC also introduced two very special Big Pilots, one of which is a Perpetual Calendar edition that boasts their iconic emerald green and black colourway. Being the spotlight piece in this collection, only 10 lucky F1 fans or watch collectors will ever own this one.
The exquisite dial crafted out of carbon fiber, an essential composite in F1 cars today, boasts a Perpetual Calendar that’s accurate till the year 2100. Thanks to their in-house calibre 52615 that guarantees a precise watch rate with a Pellaton automatic winding system. The double barrel also offers a stunning 7 day power reserve. All of this strapped on with black calfskin.
The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Mercedes- AMG Petronas Motorsport”
The second edition takes after a tone of subtle elegance but is limited to a slightly larger count of 50 pieces. With the same composure of black ceramic and carbon fibre on its case and dial. The Petronas emerald green and black palette features here too. In terms of complications, we only see a dual sub-dial chronograph at 6 and 12 o’clock. Interestingly, to add to its modern competitive motor-sport accents, the chronograph is also a Flyback. Powering this mechanical magic is an in-house manufactured calibre 89361.
