The tradition of celebrating International Women’s Day dates back to 1909, when Russian-born American suffragist Theresa Malkiel and a few bold women took a stand for women’s rights everywhere. Demanding better pay and a simple right to vote, their names went down in history as their actions brought about a breakthrough in North America and across Europe. Since then, on March 8 every year, Women’s Day is celebrated in their honor. On this occasion if you are looking to indulge yourself or want to gift the women in your life something, these cool timepieces are a good place to start.
Cartier is known for embracing elegance in their timepieces, and the Baignoire is an example. A delicate fusion of timeless aesthetics and rich gold and diamond treatments, it is perfect for women who admire heritage and precious jewels. There are different variants – yellow gold, diamond studded, and white gold – in ‘medium’ and ‘extra-large’ variants.
Piaget’s Possession comes in a truly unique shade of wine. The three-piece collection emphasises the fire and sparkle of a strong feminine spirit with cherry-pink, gold, and diamond treatments. While cased in 18K gold, the first timepiece bears 42-brilliant cut diamonds on its bezel and 11 on its dial; the second edition comes with 181 brilliant-cut diamonds on the dial and bezel; and the third with a strap that has 320 diamonds.
Being one of the biggest attractions at SIHH 2019, the Audemars Piguet’s unisex Code 11.59 marks a new cornerstone for the brand and its legacy, featuring some of watchmaking’s most luxurious complications – a chronograph, self-winding movement, a perpetual calendar and, a skeleton tourbillon. Of course, these complications are distributed among the timepieces, but they work towards making this line at par with the Royal Oak and Millinery capsules, Audemars Piguet’s other flagship lines. Our favourite: The version with a perpetual calendar and the open-worked tourbillon edition.
What’s new in Jaeger-LeCoutre’s Rendez-Vous line of women is the three-piece Dazzling Rendez-Vous Night & Day featuring a prong setting, alongside day/night indicator, which moves across a starry sky of mother-of-pearl within a 6 o’clock aperture. The iridescent mother-of-pearl dial alongside a day/night indicator is the perfect mix of mechanics and beauty.
The most playful collection on this list, and unveiled at SIHH 2019, the Bonbon consists of six timepieces, and features designs that mimic candies and fruits. All automatic, five out of the six are skeletal timepieces with rectangular and oval dial-shapes.
