Our brands

Throughout the archives of horology and the craftsmanship of timekeeping novelties, there have always been two definitive goals: aiming for extravagance and fitting these extravagances in extremely minimized spaces, in short, ultra-thin watches.

It’s challenging to fit complicated movements into compact cases, which is why these novelties are so rare today. Currently, Piaget holds the title for crafting the world’s thinnest mechanical watch at 2mm. To put that into perspective, it’s a little more than the space a timepiece’s second’s hand would cover with a single click. Then came Bvlgari that introduced us to the world’s thinnest tourbillon watch, the Octo Finnisimo.

These compact novelties are crafted by only a handful of watchmakers today, but if you’re looking to do some lightweight timekeeping of your own, here’s our list of some of the best ultra-thin watches.

Bvlgari Octo Series

ultra-thin watches

This house of Italian jewellery and luxury watchmaking has always been revered for pushing the boundaries of luxury craftsmanship, take the Serpenti for that matter. The watch in focus today is their Octo. With a case thickness of only 5.15 mm, it boasts a double sub-dial chronograph and a date dial as well, all of this is possible thanks to the gorgeous automatic movement underneath.

Chopard L.U.C XP Skeletec

ultra-thin watches

It’s rare to see a name like Chopard craft a skeletal calibre. It’s even rarer for them to craft a skeletal timepiece this thin. Measuring in at just 6.6 mm in case thickness, the XP Skeletec is one of our favorite ultra-thin watches from the L.U.C. family. Powered by a self-winding 96-17-S calibre, the XP is cased in 18K Rose Gold and limited to 288 pieces, making it the most exclusive novelty on this list.

Movado Ultra Slim

ultra-thin watches

If you’re looking for a budget buy, you could consider Movado’s Ultra Slim line. We’ve picked out a piece with a royal navy dial and a Yellow Gold PVD case. How thin? Just under 6 mm with a Quartz running movement. We’d prefer pairing this watch with the more formal side of a man’s wardrobe. It’s slick, accurate, and affordable.

Rado DiaMaster Thinline

ultra-thin watches

Two birds with one stone : Ultra-thin watches with exceptional minimalist dials. However, there’s more. The sheen on its case comes from Rado’s new Ceramos make, a mix of 90% high-tech ceramic and 10% metal alloy. It measures in at about 8mm. The piece also runs automatic and boasts a tiny date window at 6 o’clock.

Available at Kapoor Watch Co.

Jaeger LaCoultre Reverso Series

While the idea of crafting a watch with a flip dial was conceived in the 30s, JLC reinvented it into a modern watchmaking icon. The Reverso family is large and you can experiment with a wide range of complications and straps. The one in focus runs Quartz and is cased out of steel. However, with its flipping mechanism, it’s also the thickest on this list at 8 mm.

Frederique Constant Slimline

It’s well established that making ultra-thin watches is a skill only a few watchmakers have mastered. Bringing this down to affordable prices is Frederique Constant with their latest offering, the Slimline. It runs on the brand’s smallest caliber yet, the FC-206. While the Slimline is a vast collection, we’d suggest taking a look at the one with a bezel completely enriched with special stones.

Cartier Tank Solo Ladies

Cartier have always been about the holy trinity of watchmaking – Classic, clean, and precise. One of their most admired pieces ever, the Tank Solo Ladies is also one of the best ultra-thin watches a woman can wear today. It runs Quartz and is cased in a 5.5mm steel case. As an interesting detail, there’s a synthetic spinel cabochon on its crown to match its hands.

Swatch Skindesert

As the Skindesert runs Quartz, it fits its movement in a 5.4 mm thin case. It’s also a part of Swatch’s latest offering for 2019-2020.
