Latest women’s watchmaking novelties that make great Mother’s Day gifts

Mother’s Day is all about celebrating the leading lady in your life. If there’s ever been a better time to show some appreciation, it’s now. Whether you’re homebound or live miles away, we’re sure that no one has showered you with as much care and concern as her. This year, surprise her with a timepiece that’s just as special. These Mother’s Day timepieces are sophisticated and feminine and exude an elegance that could only come from watches of such calibre

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso One Red-Wine

Mother's Day timepieces

The Reverso has always been an icon of the La Grande Maison’s, but this year, the 20th-century design classic gets a little facelift in the form of fresh colours and contemporary features.

The same Art Deco aesthetics are retained here, except the elongated case now sees two rows of grain-set diamonds that line the gadroons at the upper and lower edges of the case. A jolt of bold red adds a rich glow to this time-tested watch, achieved via multiple layers of lacquer over a subtle sunray guilloche pattern. While plenty of Reverso watches flip over to reveal another dial, this one features a solid steel case back — a blank canvas that allows you to personalise with a special engraving for mom.

Cartier Pasha de Cartier

The Pasha might have seen various incarnations over its lifetime, but the latest one marks a faithful return to its 1985 introduction. This year, its 35mm version comes in steel or pink gold (a larger 41mm in yellow gold is also available), both of which make for perfect Mother’s Day timepieces.

While key features remain, new design elements like the Cartier’s QuickSwitch strap release system and SmartLink sizing systems make it easier for self-adjustments. There’s also a discreet way of personalising it; simply unscrew the chained crown cover to find a tiny space dedicated for engraved initials.

Chanel J12 Paradoxe

Mother's Day timepieces

Chanel’s list of icons is extensive, but the J12 holds a special place in the maison’s heart for good reason. Now in its 20th year, the sporty, monochromatic timepiece has undergone a makeover, and special releases pay tribute to the house’s famous aesthetic codes.

Fashioned from ceramic, the J12 Paradoxe features a contrasting and asymmetric colour scheme that dominates the dial and case. The fusion of two different coloured ceramics is extremely complex and lends an eccentricity that’s hard to come by today, perfect for the offbeat mom who’s always up for taking the path less trodden.

Vacheron Constantin Traditionalle Tourbillon

It’s great to see VC get back to crafting women’s watchmaking novelties as well. Earlier this year, they unveiled the Égérie. Their first collection for women since 2003. The second and latest joins VC’s grand Traditionalle family with two new looks and a common tourbillon.

The watch comes in two variants, one in pink gold with a diamond-set case (bezel, band, lugs, between the lugs, you get the picture) and the second, a mother of pearl dial. The other is white gold that is completely iced-out with 559 diamonds weighing 6.59 ct. It runs on a calibre 2160 that promises an 80-hour power reserve. It’s a classic Mother’s Day timepiece.

Baume & Mercier Hampton

Mother's Day timepieces

It’s strikingly prominent that the Hampton takes after the elegance of 1920s Art Deco. It’s clean, elegant, polished yet playful. What catches our eye is how the rectangular case bends at edges, right before its lugs. It plays with how the light bounces off the traditional square corners.

If you turn the watch over, the elegant automatic movement is put on display, thanks to the open case back. The new Hampton will come in multiple variants, this one with a brown otherwise black leather strap and a steel bracelet variant too. If you’d to add something more to the mix, there’s a variant that comes with a second’s sub-dial too, breaking its minimalist code.

Hermes undoubtedly had one of the most impressive line-ups at Watches and Wonders this year, but there’s one novelty that makes for stunning Mother’s Day timepieces: Nantucket Jete de Chaine d’Ancre. The lugs on this watch and the tiny diamond treatments on the corners of its case and dial give this timepiece a signature nautical elegance.
With 48 diamonds on its dial and 41 on its case, the timepiece is super tiny at just 23 x 17 mm. The case, crafted out of 316L steel boasts an anchor chain setting.
