A major comeback for sneakers and 1990s looks on catwalks has projected certain sportswear makers into the limelight and allowed others to join in multiple collaborations with ready-to-wear designers and brands. However, given that it involves not just any label but the Prada luxury house, this latest news is nonetheless likely to cause quite a stir.
Prada revealed the first product release from its partnership with Adidas, which features everything from all-white limited-edition Adidas Superstar sneakers, over to a refreshed reinterpretation of Prada’s bowling bag in the very same hue.
The unisex sneakers, made by Prada in Italy, are produced in a limited quantity of 700, with the unique serial number embossed on one side, and the Prada logo on the other. The entire upper is made from full-grain leather, cupped on top of the shell toe and herringbone-pattern outsole in a Superstar shoe style. A trefoil logo-print can be found on the heels, set right above a Prada logotype. The bowling bag, on the other hand, comes in white calf leather with a sports nylon strap, and bares the signature silhouettes of both the Prada classic and adidas’ gym bag.
The partnership, which is expected to be long-term, brings together two brands with a joint passion for blending fashion and sports. The Superstar sneaker was debuted in 1969 as a low-top interpretation of adidas’ Pro Model Basketball shoe, and quickly became a favourite amongst pop icons including the Beastie Boys. Prada, meanwhile, launched the Luna Rossa sailing team in 1997 to participate in the America’s Cup, where the athletes test new materials and technology for the brand’s creations.
