Welcomhotel Shimla

Welcomhotel has stepped into Himachal Pradesh with this 47-room ‘green’ hotel overlooking the picturesque Mashobra valley. It’s USP is that from the moment you wake up, you can enjoy sweeping views of tall pine and deodar trees dotting the hillsides from any room. Like many other ITC hotels, this is an eco-friendly property with two dining spaces and a bar, and will soon throw open the signature spa ‘K by Kaya Kalp’. It opened in December 2020 and is a 30-minute drive from Shimla.

The Johri

The name of this luxury boutique hotel housed in a restored 19th-century building comes from its unusual location in the middle of Johri Bazaar. In a city famed for its jewellery, the five suites are named after gemstones everything at this hotel is an ode to Rajasthan. The interiors by New York-based designer Naina Shah give an antique yet elegant touch to the hotel, with traditional paintings, framed textiles, hand-painted murals, and vintage furniture. There’s a chic cocktail bar, and the restaurant serves organic vegetarian dishes. You can also enjoy Ayurveda massages, an afternoon tea called high chai, yoga, and meditation sessions. This is the second hotel in the city by Abhishek Honawar of Honawar Hospitality in partnership with Siddharth Kasliwal.

The Leela Palace Jaipur

Very soon, Jaipur is going to be home to yet another stunning luxury palace hotel. Located near Amber fort and overlooking the Aravali range, the latest hotel by The Leela Palaces, will sprawl over eight acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. Inside its captivating white marble exterior are 200 rooms and suites and another 88 private villas, there will be five dining outlets, including a bar and a rooftop dining space. And of course, there is a spa, gym, and temperature-controlled outdoor pool. 

King’s Mansion, Goa

With its focus firmly on wellbeing, this 17-suite wellness retreat in north Goa is going to be one of its kind in town. Lasting from seven days to three weeks, the luxury wellness programmes will focus on detox, weight management, and more. Designed by Moss Wellness Consultancy, they will also include Ayurveda. King’s Mansion was Vijay Mallya’s ‘Kingfisher Villa’, and now it is owned by Indian actor Sachiin Joshi, with interiors by Gauri Khan. 

Six Senses Fort Barwara

When you explored historic forts, did you ever wonder what it would be like to actually live inside its strong rock walls? At Six Senses’ first hotel, you can get this surreal experience. After careful restoration, the 14th-century Barwara fort in Rajasthan will house 48 suites, two restaurants and swimming pools when it opens in the second half of 2021. And the signature Six Senses Spa will sprawl over 30,000 square feet of space in what was formerly the women’s palace. Just 30-minutes from Ranthambore National Park, you can opt for a safari during your stay here. 

Tree of Life Homestead, Corbett Country

Bonfire evenings, kids play area, a cosy fireplace, a large lawn and fruit orchards, a barbeque area, freshly cooked meals, and a six-hole golf course next door – this is what you can expect when you check into this 12-room luxury boutique hotel that is getting set to open in the summer of 2021. Located close to Corbett National Park, a safari will, of course, be on your itinerary, but just like other Tree of Life hotels, even this one offers a number of interesting experiences such as birding, a visit to the nearby village, riding an ATV, and more.

Hilton Goa Resort

You might have been to Goa umpteen times, but a new property makes the getaway refreshing. The Hilton group’s latest addition to this popular vacation spot is a 104-room resort in Candolim overlooking Nerul River, welcoming visitors since November. All the rooms come with a balcony, and the suites have a private plunge pool. Talking of pools – this resort is one of the few in Goa with four outdoor pools, including one for children. When hunger pangs strike, there are three options to choose from – Saipe, the all-day dining restaurant, Coco, the high-octane lounge bar, and Doce café. Do not miss the sunset views, but if the beach is where you want to lounge, it is just 10-minutes away.

Taj Chia Kutir Resort & Spa, Darjeeling

Inside the sprawling Makaibari Tea Estate that dates back to 1859, lies this stunning 72-room hotel by the Taj group. Needless to say, the resort has stunning views of mountains and tea gardens, sometimes bathed in the sun and other times enveloped in a romantic mist. Appropriately, the rooms have four-poster beds and wooden interiors. There are two restaurants, including a fine dining restaurant called Sonargaon and an elegant tea lounge where you can enjoy high tea and a tasting session with the tea sommelier. The Jiva Spa offers the signature treatments.

The Postcard Hotel

This luxury boutique hotel chain whose USP is slow, relaxed holidays, is set to open three properties this year – at Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat, Mashobra in Himachal Pradesh, and Maravanthe coast in Karnataka. Surrounded by mango orchards, the 15-room Gir hotel will be located inside the forest – head there when you want to spot the Asiatic Lion. The Mashobra property tucked inside cherry orchards will have 23 valley facing rooms, while the hotel in Karnataka will be on a picturesque stretch of the beach. Expect the Postcard signature treatment with no set check-in or check-out time. 

Taj Skyline Ahmedabad

If you like a hotel with commanding views of the city, then this 18-storey Taj property (opened in December) is the new address in town. One of the tallest structures in the city, it has 170 rooms and will add another 145 rooms soon. It is home to three dining options – Shamiana – the all-day diner, Nonya that serves Chinese and Thai cuisine, and the Emperor’s Lounge. The Taj’s iconic Shamiana restaurant is the third one being opened by the group after Taj Mumbai and Dubai. The hotel has an indoor temperature-controlled pool as well as the Jiva Spa.

The Connaught

It is not every day that a hotel opens in Luytens’ Delhi. This stylish 104-room hotel by IHCL is part of their SeleQtions portfolio, designed to seamlessly fit in with the Georgian architecture of Delhi’s iconic British-era shopping and commercial hub. There is just one restaurant, the Hub that doubles up as a chic bar and has a lovely al-fresco area. Animal lovers, you can check in with your pets.

The Leela Hotel and Residences Bhartiya City Bengaluru

The Leela hotel group is planning to open its second hotel in the thriving I-T hub in the second half of this year. It will be located in Bhartiya City – a high-end township, home to high-end shops, entertainment, and commercial spaces. This hotel will have 281 rooms and suites, a rooftop Indian restaurant, a bar, spa, heated pool, fitness centre, and more. The airport will be a 30-minute drive.

The Fern Seaside Luxurious Tent Resort, Daman

This is a luxury tent property at the backdrop of the Moti Daman Fort, opened in December 2020. The 30 tents come with a pillow menu, in-room dining, sit-out area, LED television, and overlook the sea. There is plenty to do here – take a dip in the pool, play badminton, carom and chess, go for cycling, read a book on the hammock, or tuck into a hearty meal at one of the restaurants. O Gosto is the all-day dining option, ‘Gardenia’ as you can guess with the name is the garden restaurant and bar, and O Barzinho is where you can sip cocktails.
