Fragrance roundup: 10 scents we loved this August

More than a few fragrances dropped this month, and we suspect it’s thanks to the coming of autumn. While we are firm believers that perfumes are unisex, there’s no denying that certain smells (and packaging) is more appealing to a certain gender.

But who are we to judge; a woman can wear men’s cologne and vice versa. That said, there are scents we loved this August, ranging from the really masculine colognes to the fresh and floral scents that are quintessentially girly.

These fragrances are all brand new, but some like the Chanel Gabrielle, could reach iconic heights. There are also fragrances housed in a delightful millennial pink hue, such as the Gucci Bloom, Burberry Blush, Prada Infusions de Rose, and Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal.

We’ve also thrown in a unisex fragrance, like the Diptyque Vetyverio that you could share with your other half. The men are not left out either as there are fragrances bound to pull in the opposite sex. Take your pick between the Paco Rabanne Pure XS or the Salvatore Ferragamo Uomo Casual Life.

Should you feel like adding these new smells to your fragrance wardrobe to continue smelling trendy, these are our 10 new scents we loved this August.

1
Amouage Figment for Woman

Amouage creative director Christopher Chong has always been fascinated by Bhutan, and this fragrance became his interpretation of Bhutan in a bottle. The Figment for Woman opens with peppery accents of Sichuan pepper, saffron, and gardenia. At the heart, you will find the scent opening to tuberose, jasmine sambac, orange blossoms, lisylang, and cassia. Finally, it warms up to papyrus, patchouli, and incense.

RM1,200 (100ml). Available at all Amouage stores.

2
Chanel Gabrielle

Chanel’s first new formula in 15 years is a scent that is decidedly floral with a blend of jasmine, tuberose, orange blossom, and ylang ylang. It finishes off with a sandalwood base for that lasting warm, lingering scent at the end of the day.

RM450 (50ml) and RM650 (100ml). Available at Chanel Fragrance & Beauty Boutique.

3
Gucci Bloom

Alessandro Michele has released his first Gucci fragrance and conveniently houses it in a cute millennial pink flacon. The floral fragrance comprises of white flowers such as natural tuberose, jasmine, and a new plant used in perfume-making: the rangoon creeper. It is found in South of India and its flowers are said to release a powdery, feminine floral scent.

4
L'Homme Prada Intense

The L’Homme Prada Intense is all about forming a dialogue between ingredients. Intense amber and patchouli top notes are followed by iris while the tonka beans at the base expresses the male identity. The bottle itself is also sexy in black and combines a textural experience with glass and black leather.

5
Salvatore Ferragamo Uomo Casual Life

The second rendition of the UOMO Casual Life is a pared down, more relaxed version of the original. Fresh green notes are melded with woody scents, along with violet leaves, cardamom, coffee, cashmere wood, white cedarwood, and white musk. The flacon is similar in design to the original UOMO, reinterpreted in cool brushed silver and light blue glass.

6
Prada Infusion de Rose

Prada Infusion de Rose balances the tight rope of being a feminine scent without coming across as too girly. True, it’s housed in a pink flacon, but the scent is more refreshing and citrusy thanks to the presence of green notes such as neroli, galbanum and mandarin orange.
