At first glance, a pen and a luxury automobile do not have much in common. The only time their paths may cross is when the buyer of the luxury automobile signs the deal. However, as Bentley and Graf von Faber-Castell have recently proven, there is more than meets the eye.
The two luxury powerhouses have recently come together to close the connection between the two industries by collaborating on a collection of luxurious writing instruments.
This marks the first time that the 257-year-old Faber-Castell from Germany is partnering with a UK brand. Incidentally, the luxury automobile brand happens to be celebrating their 100th anniversary next year. “Bentley and Graf von Faber-Castell share many things in common,” says head of premium Count Charles von Faber-Castell. “Many years of tradition shaped by individuals, unique design, uncompromising quality and understated elegance.”
For this collection, Bentley and Graf von Faber-Castell will be releasing three ranges of writing instruments and matching accessories. The fountain pens, rollerball pens, and ballpoint pens have design elements that point towards the subtle craftsmanship of Bentley’s luxury cars. Look to the pen’s cap, and you will see the knurling details (a crosshatch pattern designed for better grip) found mostly in Bentley’s gearstick, and the distinctive Bentley “B”.
Then there’s the polished chrome elements on the pens, which are a nod towards the shine and gleam you may find on a luxury car. Even the names of the colourways that the pens are given are not your ordinary blue or silver. They’re given exclusive Bentley colours such as Sequin Blue, anthracite Tungsten, and White Satin.
“Infusing other products with Bentley’s DNA is no easy task,” said Bentley Motors head of product design Chris Cooke. “But we managed it with our ‘Graf von Faber-Castell for Bentley’ collection.”
